Nasa and You
Why keep VO in the corner of Fire at Will ?
Let's strike a deal with Nasa to add elements not in the game which would add to it's content and enjoyment of play ?
1) Space Exploration
2) Expanded Economy: Not based solely on a credit system
3) Super Nova's, Cosmic Elements: Particle showers(large or small), Improving/Deteriorating Technology: Marooned in space or on terristrial body.
4) Inter-connecting crafts/engergy/bot alignment jammers.
Cheers !

Why do you need a deal with NASA to implement these elements (many of which have been suggested before, like space exploration, the expanded economy and marooning in space)?

what?!
Yeah, that was what I thought, too, at first. Then I tried to make sense of the post.
NASA actually sent out an RFP recently for some kind of.. nasa.. MMO. I didn't hear about it until the night of the deadline. Their request was pretty vague, too. Like "how can we make an educational.. space.. thingie?"
Anyway, we do make an effort to have some real-world astronomy in our game (like the relative color temperatures of stars), and we're probably going to be integrating more in that way. I have a significant amateur interest in astronomy, and we like to make things more "real" if it doesn't get in the way of gameplay.

this SEEMS like it might be an easy way to do that. comets and asteroid showers. some asteroids already spin, so would it be hard make a few that moved in one direction? or give one a tail and have it travel through the universe?
hmmm....comet mining. dont laugh NASAs actually looking into it.

Of course they are... after all, once concentrated resources down here become less available, we'll need a backup plan to keep up with the ever-increasing demands.
As for moving asteroids, wasn't it a server load problem (depending on # of moving objects, so a small amount would probably be okay)?
