Now system chat is available (or at least more visible), could bots use it to send out mayday requests in nation space? If a convoy is under attack (trapped in a storm, or being pirated, or even shooting near a station), they could send out a request for help to other ships in the system.
Would give the game a slightly more dynamic feel, and give people more opportunity to find other people to shoot.

very good suggestion actually.

Very good idea for dynamic content. I'm thinking of a few messages that could go out on 100 to attract wider involvement. For example:
<*Captain Von Serco> "This is the HMS Serco Queen in Latos N8. We are the lead behemoth in a Serco resupply convoy returning from Sedina Barracks to Catiquial Outpost. We have been disabled by the hive, and several behemoths have already been lost. Please repair our vessel."
In Latos N8 you would find several piles of 120 sedina chocolates and scrap, a few hive guardians, and the damaged HMS Serco Queen. The Serco Queen could be repaired with the nanite repair gun for a serco faction reward. (Cool way to fix faction a low facton) The chocolates can be salvaged and sold. And surely there will be competition in that salvage action. After all, they belong to the serco nation...

missioncreek2: '/join 201' and '/join 202' for CtC updates... Redoing the CtC would be a great idea, but I don't think it's a priority right now.
The system chat distress is a great idea. [APPROVED]

Makes finding weakened voys even easier. Yarrr!
Whether you get to view the distress call as "please send help" or "please send more pirates" is up to you of course :-) Either way it gives people another opportunity to get together and blow each other up, without requiring any extra missions to be designed.
It could be extended to report on the activity of Hated/KOS people in monitored nation space. May make it slightly harder for pirates to operate in these areas, but may also make things more interesting. However, this is probably a separate issue.

Aye , a good idea , but it might make 100 a bit spammy. Maybe an emergency channel , such as 911 or 999 would be better. This would let players who are busy with other things turn it off, in the same way as they can with 201/202.
Do system wide messages go to 100? I assume you'd only get messages for the system you're currently in, so you should only get lots of messages if you're in one of the border systems (admittedly, that's over half of UIT space).
Depending on how it's implemented, it may be possible to mute distress/monitoring signals as you can other players.

sam: Ecka was responding to missioncreek2, who suggested the messages go out over 100. System chat messages only stay within the system.
Ah, yes. Sorry. The lack of threading confused me.
