Oh god yes.

I've finally got it. The holy Vendettian grail; The hallmark of a different age.

Otherwise known as, CTF.

Back in the old days of vendetta, CTF was spread over 9 base sectors and was pretty much the only mission that really requires teamwork. Teamwork and squad-tactics is something that the Developers want us players to be doing; But it's not always easy to create content that encourages that. The players have done their share of creating scenarios for this; Nation Wars, RP, etc. But it's not the same.

Now, Vendetta lost a lot of old players when they moved from Alpha to Beta. And I' not saying that's anyones fault; It's a good thing they changed the universe and moved to bigger and better. But there's always been something missing that the devs, to date, have not been able to fulfill. In my mind, that would be Capture the flag.

Alright, I'm not going to make you read any more nonsense. Here's the suggestion;

For capture the flag, I prepose that there are 9 sectors in UIT space that we'll call 'the arena'. UiT are a trading, spacefaring race that are constantly in contact with other cultures; It makes sense that they'd have many different games, in order to create bonds between different peoples and such. Capture the Flag would be the UiT's version of the deneb conflict. Only, it's a game. Sponsored by wealthy corporations, it's designed to promote products, to have an entirely new product chain; to make money. Oh yeah, and promoting team spirit and friendly competition would be nice. The nine sectors would have to be hand-crafted. They'd also have to be a plot device that explains why you cannot use your warp drives (You'd get to sector-from-sector through a jumppoint. It's not perfect for now, but I think that making some kind of jumpgate would be too much of a pain)

You of course, can't use turbo with the flag, and you having stations the same way as back in alpha. You'll get a cookie if you use the same nav map from the alpha. You get to this arena either by an entry sector, or by taking a mission (Go, dock with capital ship X in the blah blah blah which will take you to the arena, which for fairness sake, will be a mystery; Thus allowing you to take the player to the alternate universe)

This isn't about pandering to Old players. This would be a workable mission, which should require a week or two of work to get to a decent state; but it's worth it. Besides being an event that would really encourage player cooperation, it would be the basis for missions for years to come. From sabotage missions (intercepting a cargo ship, destroying it's goods, and delivering tweaked parts to the other side, reducing the effectiveness of all the neutrons in station X) to corporate in-fighting, to sponsorship deals...

Do you think we could have our cake, and eat it too?

Yet you're the reputed lawyer who acts like he's playing in 4chan?

Rather than go backward into SpaceQuake country, I would prefer to see missions that incorporate the action of CTF but have objectives related to the storyline. The disputed item could be a rare object needed for manufacturing a capship or special weapon, a diplomat, an artifact of national importance, etc. .

The real solution would be a way to develop opposition missions.

What I mean by this, is missions that are joined together, much like the BS mission is now, but more flexible than locked to a single sector like the BS is. This would facilitate mission trees that when a player takes a "haul the cargo" mission, a reciprocal mission of "stop a shipment" is spawned in an opposing factions station.

If no player takes it, fine bots fill in the role, but if players take it, then the natural conflict that results spawns some decent PvP.

This would allow the PCC to build missions that have a natural opposition factor built in, and even build something like a capture the flag, out of pick up and take cargo missions.

Rather spooky how the Itani military would magically know the instant when the Serco decide to send a shipment, in that well discussed variation of an "opposition mission".

Almost as spooky as the channels that lets you know when CTC mission shipments are leaving.

WWWWWWWWOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!!

Yes. Intelligence gathering could be an exciting venture in the game. Especially in the cavernous depths of space, I'd suspect that intel would play more of a role in military *mananamas*... You know what I'm saying.

i dont care for the CTF can only be spacequake attitude, the game was wicked fun now and it has taken 4 years to get even close to being that fun again

the game is fun again now but it took 4 years to get here, CTF as an Arena sport is an acceptable addon as it is not the entire game like it was back then just something fun to do.

the whole point of VO should not be to avoid fun or make everything retardedly hard to work for. That's why I stopped playing WoW if I wanted to work that hard i'll do it in RL and not some silly medieval game. Same with VO, stick to fun, stay away from annoyingly useless and hard quests
