Solid Fuel Rocket Boosters

One thing I realized in game today, while flying my XC, I realized that perhaps a form of Super-Turbo might be of use in the game.
Figure that it fits into an L-Port weapon slot, and has a certain predetermined fuel count, (similar to ammunition weapons like Missiles), and could be fired by a pilot to act as an extra form of Turbo.

This would be esp. useful for those Moth pilots that have 2 L-ports but no capabilities of fighting with a Centurion. The Moth pilot, under attack, could activate these quick boosters, flinging the pilot up a pre-determined amount of m/s.

Militaristically speaking, it wouldn't be that much of a massive advantage to any one side, since it would, acting like a turbo, prevent major maneuvering while activated, forcing the ship to fly a direct path.

What do you all think?

Sounds nice, reminds me of the boosters on the ole sloth in Hortans last story ;)

The thing with solid fuel boosters is that they use fuel. Otherwise, I approve

Errrm, could come in handy for piracy. A hog mk2 with one of these babys and a lawgun could do loads of damage! Ooooh oooh a taur with one, and a jack and some energy could too!

Bring it on!

Oooh ooh, tung maud, with flares!

I like it. Just make some way that pirates wouldn't want to use it xD

They could give it a high power grid usage, like the widowmaker.

'd be fun if you had no way of shutting it off once you start 'er up. You'd just have to ride it until the fuel burns out.

Yeah, I would imagine thats what the "Solid State" part would imply, Mynt. But you are right, that would be interesting.

Interesting is also that since the large ports are arranged not in line with the major movement axis of the moth, but parallel to it, at a distance, it would allow steering of the moth to an extent by igniting them at different points in time.

As for 'turning them off' ahead of burnout time, jettisoning weapons would have to be introduced for that. Presettable burn durations would also be nice (cannot be changed after outfitting them except by buying and outfitting new ones).

Okay, well, lets mod this to say, instead of a Single Solid Booster, you have say, 8 "Micro-Boosters"
Each booster can be "refueled" via purchasing new ammunition for it.

The Micro-Boosters would provide the ship a set amount of sudden thrust, but wouldn't burn for a long period of time, say 5 seconds a piece.

Mmmm... Mineless moths...

At which point they'd launch off as a concussive rocket, accelerating for the rest of the burn! It could happen...

Haha, that'd be cool, an all-new ship type that consists basicaly of a superlight and <insert number> giant missiles. The ship controls the missiles, and releases them once it deems they are on the correct course, staying out of blast radius and/or going to rearm. Dive bombers in space, essentially.

So, Pyroman... you thought of this while flying an XC... how were you envisioning you could add this onto one, seeing as it has no ports?

Oh, I realized before posting it wouldn't work for an XC model, but it would be viable for the standard Behemoth. And maybe if there's some XC Port added in the future, or some "Medium" classification of weaponry that was strictly trade valued, but also could be added to an XC, it might make the idea a little more viable.
