Bring back the torpedoes
With the new cap ship filled BS we need a capital ship weapon!
Bring back the torpedoes!
1 large port holds 1 torp
so 2 torpedoes max on one ship, the rags and taurs
whicked heavy mass
must have a capital ship targeted and within 1500m to fire
Adv torpedo launcher
takes 2 large ports holds 4 torps. you'd turn like a battlestar carrying these so only well covered or suicidal players would dare!
Yes this has been talked about before and it must be talked about again especially now with the ability, no wait...the existence of mint battles.

...and the issue remains: There is no countermeasure yet. When the cappies (and stations) can target the missiles, or other countermeasures are added, THEN the avalons can return.
And no mine launcher in the front and nuke launcher in the rear port. Or make them be parallel, not one behind the other.
but, but, but Tosh.. where's the fun in that?
Being a kamikazie should be a legitament tactic. If not, I just might have to turn in my subscription :P
There's no need for a countermeasure, as just launching the thing accurately takes a minor miracle. Just because it can't be popped on the way in doesn't mean it's too uber.
It can be popped, cap gauss *can* destroy rockets and missiles, it's just that the AI doesn't do it on its own.
Aside from the fact incoming warheads can't be targeted, there really isn't anything preventing a human gunner from shooting down a torpedo.

Lecter, first off; shooting avalons at a big ship is easy. You've never fired one, so... ;D
The bottom line is ; Incarnate has flat-out stated that they are not I repeat, NOT going to put them in game until they are targetable and destroyable. Period.
I'd know, because I'm the biggest whore when it comes to Avalons. Remember when Blackhole Razorclaw was born?

(1) Yes, I have. Both in game (thanks, random devlon drops!) and on the test server. But those aren't what's being discussed here: see (2) below.
(2) No, it isn't, at least not in the relevant context of Border Skirmish with a large increase in weapon mass and severely limited ammo. Read all the relevant words, try and comprehend their actual meaning, and only then consider opening your prepubescent yap.
(3) The sooner you turn in your subscription, the closer Guild will be to some mild form of success. Don't let the door catch you on the ass on your way out, kid.

The irony in the second-to-last sentence is heartrending.
That said, firing avalons at big ships might not be all that easy if you have to stay outside its destructive range and the ship moves to evade it... with a working control scheme and human players at the helm.

With cap weaponry and a retardly heavy ship carrying torpedoes the odds of you being blown apart and your missiles being removed by your death before you are even able to turn around to escape are pretty high
So targeting the weapons isn't totally necessary (but still make it so at some point)

Tosh, I never play anymore, and I'm paid for the next two years. It's hard to see how Guild is losing there.
Even were I to cease paying, I wouldn't have to cease posting here. So, why not take your irony, turn it sideways for some girth, and stick it right up your ___.

Dear Lecter, once again you cease to make me laugh.
Anyway, I seem to remember the discussion (from some dev or another) being that avalons would be marginally homing, anyway. And capital ships move mighty slow; it's quite possible to do bombing runs on them, even with a fully loaded rag. Try it yourself, just make sure you get up to full speed before you enter firing range; once that happens, you can zip past while firing all you've got. (assuming you didn't fly straight into a ball of plasma. This can be avoided by either choosing a good trajectory, or dodging on your way in. Or both) Capships move too slow to really avoid avalons that are being accelerated by a rag. In a border-skirmish situation, even if there is a player controlling the capital ship, and he has a view of 3000m around him, he'd still be hard-pressed to avoid that single ship ; Assuming he even saw the ship with enough time, the ship would still be able to hit him if it had gotten up to speed (depending on how fast capships really can accelerate. Which as we've seen so far, hasn't seemed like much)
Muu.

We haven't had this level of flaming in awhile.
