How about Behemoth Heavies for traders with high enough trade level?
Feb 01, 2008 Lord~spidey link
thoses are a bit too powerful in the hands of plays specially with the agt turrets on them
Feb 01, 2008 Dr. Lecter link
Oh yeah, far too powerful. I'm sure everyone would be using em in PvP, totally unbalancing the game!

"Too powerful"?!?!?!

Yeah, I can see 8 or 10 of them battling it out in B-8 -- not! So we can have an SCP, but a Behemoth heavy would be too powerful? Are you smoking something spidey?!

All I'm saying is if you made it a high trade level it actually might give some point to trading other than amassing huge sums of money with nothing to spend it on...

It seems like the latest development efforts, with the exception of border skirmish, have all been aimed at newbs....how about something for high level players that don't want to just bot or PVP all day?

Var, people already fight in B-8 with swarm loaded moths. Of course they are going to fight in heavies, especially if these have those turrets covering their backs.
Some changes should have to be made to the turrets.
Perhaps when the devs make these type of ships for multiple players simultaneously. Like one controlling the ship normally, while the other controls the turrets. I think someone suggested something like this. (Control of multiple players over a single ship I mean)
Would be cool though.

Or have the turrets AI controlled, and the pilot must order them to shoot a certain target on their own, perhaps?

Bring in the heavy!

So what about balance? why should everything have the same cance

why not just have one ship then!

and i doubt the moth heavy would be much of a threat all the turrets do is make you change your flight path a bit they dont really stop any attack

I just don't agree with this it too powerful argument.

I can kill heavies out of a voy with multiple heavies shooting and all the escort ships as well. Lots of others can too.

I guess the devs should nerf the Centaur because it can carry swarms and AGT, or the Hornet because it can have 4 adv. rails, or the SCP because it has insane armor, or the X-1 and Superlight because they are too manueverable ?

Oh wait...that has all been argued on here already!

let the traders have their heavy. Maybe then we can see some of them moving through grey space again.

Arguably, a ship that seats 3 people *should* be about three times more powerful (and expensive)... which the Behemoth Heavy clearly isn't anyways.

(jokingly) maybe 2 people, one person to control the forwards, left, and clockwise thruster, and the other person to control the reverse, right, and counter-clockwise thruster? that would be interesting =D

This should probably be clairified: the Moth Heavy, while having auto-firing turrets, would have no ports at all, like the XC. I seriously doubt auto AGT turrets would be enough to make it powerful, much less "too powerful."

As a trading ship meant for hostile territory it very likely would be 3 times as powerful(in a survival sense). A human pilot after all *should* know going as fast as possible offers the best chance of escaping destruction at the hands of a pirate.

The gatling turret with its infinite fire would allow the moth to engage pursuers that not only aren't directly behind it, but also engage them while maintaining full speed. The blind spots on the left and right of the heavy are also easily dealt with by a human pilot at the helm. If a pirate wriggles into one of the blind zones the moth could simply roll presenting the upper or lower turret to face the enemy.

I really don't see a gameplay reason player shouldn't have access to the heavy moth. I don't even think it should have excessivly high levels to obtain.

(Edit) In fact, I think we should step it up a notch, and have player controlled Tridents, and maybe an additional ship ot two in this class.

Indeed. The Trident is my personal favourite to fill in the role of gunship. It only needs one giant cannon mounted centrally, and we'd have a nice capital ship hunter. Hey, variants!
Feb 05, 2008 Dr. Lecter link
Aye, mount a CPL on it and we have a Raven! ;)

I hate ships with inertial dampers :P

But it was cool to look at...

Maybe, for the sake of balance, of course, we should have all the players running around in EC-89s with free plasma cannons.

Balanced PvP 'til the last wormhole disintegrates!

Cool

I think that introducing the Moth Heavy into the game would NOT severely unbalance the game. For one point, the Heavy is about as maneuverable as a thrown brick. For a second, perhaps the Heavy variant would have to lose it's rear-firing turret for player-control, as there's no real way to operate a rear-facing turret at present, just isn't written into the game.

Making the Moth Heavy a more than one person craft also presents a problem. Presently, the only way for more than one pilot to board the same craft is for each to land their own, personal craft aboard. The Moth Heavy is nowhere near a Capital-class ship, and there's no way to land another ship on/in it. So I don't see 2+ player Heavies happening, at least not yet.

One point I should also make on the topic of the Moth Heavy, if there's a general agreement reached that the Moth Heavy would, somehow, unbalance the game, why not make a Moth XC Mk2 and simply give it a single L-port or something similar?

On the off-topic part on the introduction of Tridents: I'm all for it, I'd love to have my own Trident but I dont think the dev's are seeing the Trident as ready just yet, although it's been released a little bit wider. We can all keep our fingers crossed for some light-capitals in the near future.
