Kamakazi

I wasnt sure if this would be "hijaking" if i posted it in, "cargo-bomb..... a trader's surprise :o" so I decided to just post it.

I know we can do /explode, start a timer and BOOM. but what about a system where you purchase a "detonator" (there could be L and S port models) and load your ships hold with a type of explsivee cargo. fly towards a group of enemies or cap ship what have you, fire/activate/what ever...REALLY BIG BOOM. splash damage high towards the center, getting weaker towards the outer edges...say50-200 meters?

The Serco could use it for "an honorable death in battle/die for the empire", the Itani could use it purely for defense/pre-emptive strikes...I dont really think UIT would use it, but baybe to ecomically destabilize a region, and the order Akan...(if they ever show up)...would almost certianly use something like this. it would be a means to an end...(large scale damage to a fleet or station, only one ship lost and it shows the rest of the Itani how far they are willing to go by sacraficing themselves.

Serco would never die in such a fashion. It is totally dishonorable!

Not that the idea is a bad one.

I would say that to balance such a device, it would have a low explosion radius. If used to kill more than one opponent, the user would of course have advantageous circumstances. And there must be a way to counter this, the obvious solution, to keep one's distance.

I would almost certainly never leave the station without one, however. I always aim to defeat my opponent with my dying explosion, and rarely miss if nothing else.

I like the idea, although I wouldn't say Sercos would use that weapon for Honor or Glory. While there is no greater honor than death on the Field, suicide is dishonor.
Serco doesn't make stupid pilots.

I can see the idea being used though, perhaps be able to load your ship full of "C4" or "TNT" and it would change the blast radius based on the explosive compound in your hull (C4 is more powerful than TNT, etc etc).

My concern is the ability of this to be used for terrorist-style assaults. A pilot equipped with one of these could decimate an entire trade convoy by flying into the middle and detonating himself. Viable ingame, but concerning.

I would be more concerned with pilots actually shooting my convoys... I'd like them to be blown up, and it's one less worry off my mind if they do that for me.

while I agree it could be used to destroy convoys...(and it would be irratating)...that is one of positives as well. the Serco and Itani are at war. it stands to reason that they might try to destabalize the economy. then theres the Order of Akan, they basically ARE terrorists. then there are the pirates in name only who tend to act like terrorists.

theres also an aspect I hadnt thought of...when stations are destroyable. fight your way past the station gaurds, fly into the docking port and BOOM

KazeBus would most thoroughly enjoy.

I think it's a good idea, seeing how the world strategizes war now. People used to line up and fire at each other in a marching army. Then came the riflemen. Sometime later there's mustard gas. Napalm, Agent Orange, VX Nerve gas, atomic bombs, hydrogen bombs, anthrax, dirty bombs, suicide bombers, road side bombs...

speaking of which. ideas! if not cloaked ships (which would be really crazy), maybe cloaked mines? they should be a little bit harder to see. if not, how about magnetic leech mines? they stick on to you and leech battery, slow you down, or something like that. not even nearly as nasty as napalm.

Sounds cool, but it should be L port I think.

Adding to FNugget's idea...mass packets.
Fire a missile or rocket that contains a large quantity of compressed matter. It hits the ship, and slows down it's ability to move. This would effect speed and maneuverability.

This in an interesting idea...To balance it you could make it that you have to load explosives into your cargo, and the more there is the bigger the bang. This would mean slow large cargo ships do more damage then light ships like IBGs. Also the added mass would further decreased maneuverability. About 350-700 damage per CU would be very balanced imo. Mabye make stronger explosives with less splash (anti-cap) and weaker explosives with more splash ( anti group).

If you all are talking about a suicidal attack method, I believe you mean "kamikaze". If spelling things in foreign languages is not your strong suit (it isn't for many americans), use the english translation, which is "Divine Wind".

and uneducated guesses seem to be your strong point. I have pointed out in the past...(to you I believe)...that I Am in point of fact, Greek. there is some difficulty in translating frome Japanese to Greek to American English.

but all that aside, thank you for a stunningly relevant contribution. as an interesting side note, there is quite a bit of revealing writings on the subject of those who feel a need/desire to revel in or "show off" to others what they percieve to be thier own intelligence. perhaps you might find them interesting.

You are not the only person who was spelling the word incorrectly, Ryan, and it is in fact a very frequently misspelled word, by a large number of people. I did not mean to make it appear that I was lumping you with the general American populace or making the assumption that you were in fact American; however, it is true that a good number of Americans have trouble spelling if the word isn't from the English language (and frequently even if it is). At least I'm not going around correcting grammar or the all-too-common to/two/too and your/you're mistakes people make, and instead correcting a word that means something very, very different when misspelled. In this case, 'kama' would mean an iron pot or kettle, and 'kazi' isn't (as far as I know) a word in Japanese ('ka' has a variety of meanings ranging from what is effectively a question mark to even 'mosquito', but 'zi' has no meaning in Japanese, in any dictionary I own or have checked online).

We actually used to have a similar device to this during alpha; it consisted of a ship with two large ports; the front contained a mine launcher, and the rear contained an avalon launcher. Link both ports together in one group, undock, mosey on over to your target, fire, and instant explosion.

This method is one of a few reasons that the Avalon is not currently available for players to use (another is the fairly large lack of 'appropriate' targets for the Avalon). Currently we have very limited access to the BioCom Teller-ulam mine, which has roughly the same effect as the 'insta-nuke' tactic, only there's actually a chance of the pilot surviving such a maneuver.

I question whether the difficulty in pulling that sort of attack off in VO would make it worth bothering with yet; such an addon would probably require large amounts of energy and have a large amount of mass, which would make it hard to pull off an effective attack on a target smaller than a capship. When capships are a larger part of day-to-day life in VO, I could see more of a use for this weapon/tactic.

I liked that you included this..."(and frequently even if it is)." I have many American friends and a great many of them have trouble spelling. I dont blame them, its likely a symptom of the education system.

anyways, the idea is more geared towards the point when cappies and stations can be player owned...but, it still has its merits...in my opinion, anyways.

Border Skirmish, for destroying cappies.

Hive Skirmish 1 or 2 designated pilots to go in for the Levi along with the missiles.

defensive agent for convoys...(small fast ship with a decent cargo hold flys into the pirates and boom)

theres probably a few more uses...

I like this idea, but because of the quick respawn after death it could become easily exploitable. The explosions would have to be kept reasonably small, ie. no majorly signifigant damage to warships, stations, etc (under 5% or even 2%). The last thing this community wants is a new form of spamming.

It also has the possibility to remove some of the "sport" from objective fights. Why bombard a capital ship with weapons when you can get some mates together and kamakzi it in waves until it's dead?
