repeat: remote selling
this as been asked before and in the total absence of willingness to dig it up, i'm resubmitting because resurrecting old threads is sometimes a no-no.
we need to be able to remotely sell items. it's not like it's some hard thing to do and, in this day and age, am sure usurpers and brokers would be happy to take in a percentage of the sale to handle the paperwork for us.
as we play, we have a tendency to accumulate the silliest crap in the remote-est of ass-in-the-space regions we just couldn't care for traveling to, just in order to clear up some of the resulting mess in the inventory roster.
a bunch of these stations i can't even dock to by now.
please. do make this happen.

+1, this would really help in keeping inventory tidy

Good idea.
Perhaps a small (1-3%) "brokerage fee" charged by the remote station for remote sales as a penalty for not going there in person?

How about this:
Itani's fee: 2% (They're monks after all)
Serco's fee: 2% (They want to build a big military, but are honorable)
UIT's fee: 3.49% (sounds like UIT to me)
TPG fee: 2.99%
BioCom fee: 3% (pretty straight-forwards, but still enough to make tellar-ulam mines =D)
Valent: 2% (they're... normal)
Orion: 2% (eh)
Axia: 2.5 (I dunno)
Corvus: 3% (greedy things =P)
Tungusta: 2.5%
Aeolus: no clue
Ineubis: no clue
Xang Xi: 1% (they're the ones who will sell you most stuff at neutral standing, right?)
I probably got most of them wrong, but eh.

Corvus oughta be 5% because they don't ask questions about where your goods came from.
But yeah, good idea, uc! (Like Usual)

I was thinking that such a fee would depend on the distance of the player to the station the items are being sold at as well as the player's standing at that station. Something like the following:
Fee = M + D * ((65535 - S) / 65535)
M = Minimum fee percentage (value of 0-100); present specifically for the case where the player is selling items in the same system but not at the same station.
D = number of systems player would have to fly through in order to dock at the station the sale is taking place on. Example: If the player is in Dau and wants to sell something in a station in Initros, this value would be 4. Within a system (not at the station the player is at), the value would be 1.
S = Player's raw standing (the 16-bit number between 0 and 65535, not the number between -1000 and +1000) with the faction that owns the station where the sale is taking place.
Given the following values:
» M = 1
» D = 5 (Player is in Odia, wants to sell stuff located in Jallik)
» S = 532 (Player killed a few too many Itani-admired ships in the NFZ.)
The equation works out to
Fee = 1 + 5 * (65003 / 65535) = 5.959%
It's not too much when the player's closer to the stuff they're selling, but if they're trying to sell off inventory in stations where they're KOS, they'll take a bit of a hit for that, which makes sense -- why would someone who hates your guts give you money from selling your stuff?
