Facts: Longcat is Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong. So is a hornet. Long things require exponentially more force to turn. It's hard to aim with the hornet. Therefor, it's ineffective against quick ships.
The number of weapons doesn't necessarily help you bring down heavy ships, because they have enough armor that you would have to hit with at least 250 energy, *if* you were using the most energy efficient weapon. More often than not, fire fights turn into a contest of attrition. The initial advantage that having 4 weapons has really only counts in the beginning, or if one's packing ammo.
A popular setup involves equipping a hornet with high-accuracy, high alpha (isitokayifusethattermhereokaythxbai), low DPS and energy efficient weapons, with the tactic being to down the enemy in the first few shots. The problem of balance comes into play when that's the *only* setup used. I think the only competitors are quad charge cannons for hunting NPC's, and whatever energy for bot-hunting.
So the reason the ideal buff would be to it's cargo, is because that would help it in most engagements you'd consider flying a hornet into, without changing the mechanics of the fearsome Quad-Rail Hornet, and without giving it a new role, such as trader/miner.

So, I buffed the hornet cargo capacity. See update logs.
i think it should have a buff in spin torque or different weapon placement after all it is an attack ship. (those are hardcoded in though right?)
A hornet can't really mine because all S-port mining beams are inefficient. The Revenant already takes the role of the low-level trader.
lets make all the ships exactly the same, so that they are all balanced.
Starcraft achieved near-perfect balance without doing that.
No, all things equal, starcraft Protoss is the winner. See the report on the person who spent quite a lot of hours with the game AI in different scenarios vs. itself ;)
I wasn't talking specifically about the Starcraft AI, which is not balanced. :P
Starcraft is extremely well balanced it really falls back on your skill/tactics and experience with the race you're using.
*sigh*
zornet wiff all rails or all flares can be sweet.

The cargo boost is good, but the hornet still sucks in 1v1 combat. I think the profile should be smaller, or add an l-port weapon.
I often use the Hornet when traveling long distances as it has good speed and acceleration with infiniturbo. Along with decent armor and enough ports to allow both a decent weapon loadout and a radar extender, I find it great for long-haul escorts or far-off delivery missions.
Its major short-coming is its poor maneuverability due to a combination of its size (longer than a Centaur) and its comparatively poor Spin Torque (7.0 which is the same as most lighter, smaller ships).
Without trying to turn the Hornet into a fighter, I'd give it a slight maneuverability tweak by either reducing its size or upping its Spin Torque. As it is, it's the second biggest Medium-sized ship (right after the Prometheus) with the Spin Torque of much smaller ships.

I like it the way it is, and i use the hell out of it, rails, flares, charge cannon, sometimes even gauss. If anything, up it's turbo acceleration a tiny bit, or lower the drain on the mk2 and orion to 46, then it could fire the turbo with 90% charge and get the last bit while getting to the WH.
I never considered the hornet to be an everyman's fighting ship. But a special purpose/support ship.
A single quadrail hit can bring down, ANY hog, cent, vulture,or ec class ship. Also it will instakill the behemoth xc, and mining moth, not sure about the Aeolus moth.
With flares you can chain fire them and try and shoot down somebody fleeing, since they don't use any energy, or you can fire all four at once and spin people all to hell. also with the quadflare two hits takes down anything a single quadrail hit does, while turboing no less. also it's pretty fast in a straight line.
Sure it gets eaten by light fighters, It's not a great ship to take light fighters on without support of a wingman, a hog with a single AGT makes a great companion to a quadrail.
