The F1 key on Mac Pro can not be changed... no help key for the player...
any suggestions? I'm a rookie... game looks like fun... should have a video
on how to play and get started.

If you hold the fn key at the bottom left of your keyboard and hit F1 you will be able to use standard F1.

Also if you go to system preferences then keyboard&mouse under the keyboard tab, there is a checkbox that says

"Use All F1, F2, etc. as standard function keys"

Checking that will put F1-F12 on top so that you must hold down the fn key to do things like change brightness and volume.

Iry's solution is also valid for anyone with the new apple aluminium keyboard.
