Player Customizable Emblem

Nov 19, 2007 Lord~spidey link
Ok in the last couple of days i have been working on this,
so far i have 30 shapes you can stack them to get your emblem.

A way to implement something like this would be to be able to manage your emblem from the site (I'm working on a mockup)
maybe one emblem per account or per char.

This is how its gonna work, you build you emblem on the site then when ingame you get a small option weather to display the emblem or not and it would slap the emblem you build on the site on you ship (like on the wing of a vult or the side of the valk)

To build the emblem on the site there would be a page that would be go under your account or account info, click the link and you get a page with a couple of 128x128 boxes and little selection boxes to select icons, for each icon you could select Hue brightness contrast transparency Ect... When thats done you click build emblem or whatever and the site would slap all of them together and then Blam you got highly customizable player emblems that can include anything that would be offensive to anyone :D

ok this is what i did so far [ http://files.filefront.com/shapesxcf/;9078585;/fileinfo.html ]
^ its an .xcf file so your gonna need the Gimp http://gimp.org/
after you opened the image open the layers dialog and mess around by changin what layers are visible you can add color to a layer by selecting it and going in colour>colorise from then on you can pretty much make anything you want

anywaho ill post some examples of what you can do with the xcf file i made

PS: the internet cafe is closing so i didnt have time to post anymore

I really like the idea. It would be easy to update with more as well.

and hopefully there would be a way to submit your own pictures and have the guides or someone in a similar position decide whether they are appropriate enough to be put in the game, then make them available like the rest. perhaps make it possible to censor out more mature things, like the chat filter does with words and have an option to censor or uncensor the images.
Nov 20, 2007 Lord~spidey link
its impossible to write a program that censored images its alot easier for a chat filter to figure out a nasty word but its impossible(or extremely hard) to get a machine to analyze each pixel and blur or delete it accordingly

not if they are tagged as being mature when accepted.

Or better yet, just don't admit mature images in the first place.

there is always gonna be a dick/moron who is going to try to exploit the system by having a boob or something offensive as there emblem >.>

I'd hardly call a breast offensive, and it would be traditional. At the very least, scantily clad women (or men, or small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri) should be allowed. I do agree that there's a line between tasteful and tacky, but take these examples of WWII nose art:

And of course, Sea Witch:

Nice idea though, especially being able to build up an image from simpler ones. I think the examples are a bit abstract, but the basic implementation is good.

The problem with accepting any old image, is that someone will have to validate them. Maybe it could be a paid-for (with real money) service? It costs you one(?) month of game time to have an image submitted for review.

There's the issue of Vendetta's ESRB "Teen" rating to consider. See this link for a scary example of what the ESRB gets up to:

http://kotaku.com/gaming/notag/the-breasts-that-broke-the-game-269568.php

EVERYONE 10+
Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.

TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

MATURE
Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language.

ADULTS ONLY
Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity.

Nice idea! I want an emblem with boobs... but i'd be happy with a pinup type of emblem :D

WWII pin-up style artwork would be nice (at least, one of my characters would go for it), but I've no idea where that fits in those ratings. Most advertising on buses is probably more erotic than that anyway, and there's no limits on who can see that (nor on who can go down the beach, or into an art gallery, but censorship never made much sense to me).

But it's all pretty academic anyway unless the devs implement any of Spidey's ideas. One of the nice things about Vendetta's graphics are that though the models are relatively simple (compared to say, Eve), they are up close and personal and so look better. Nice artwork would really make a big improvement on top of that, regardless of the rating.

dude kids 13 and up see boobs in school in movies or in sex ed (which is stupid cause they give it every damn year) or looking for pr0n on a computer. hell I saw boobies on a 4th grade field trip to the art museum and no parents were going crazy over that! but if I see boobies in a video game, its a crime against humanity all of a sudden. I can live without boobies in vo, but the WWII pin-up style artwork, with no nudity at least should be ok.

again i tell ya The ESRB is borked

About the only thing I personally want regarding ship personalization in VO is to be able to name my ships, or at least ship presets.

I also wish ships were much more expensive, so it wasn't so easy to change ships like socks (it's probably done even more often than changing socks) in VO, but I don't think that'll ever happen.

But as I'm going off-topic here, I'll just end this post.
