"Instead of bickering, how about you use your intellectual powers to think up something constructive?"
Excellent idea, zamzx. How about you start? After all, try as I might, I fail to see the constructive contribution in "yawn" and "noobs" ;-)

First: I think some more UIT exploration could be done. Or, more accurately, TPG corp and other corporations. maybe they are searching for a more plentiful source of minerals, or a refuge for storage away from pirates. This could add onto grey space/UIT territory. More can be done there!
Second: I love the Order of Akan idea! Those folks haven't had a lot to say lately, and are probably feeling excluded: A small group of traders at the edges of Itani space saw a couple of matt black vultures (I've always pictured them in vultures) warp out of nowhere! This could add onto Itani space.
Third: Serco explorers found a Gravitational anomaly in... somewhere. Simple, but it adds onto Serco territory.

It would be good to expand the systems here, more systems mean's more players will have room to breathe instead of being cramped into a few limited areas.
I also hate to be the harbinger of bad news but when STO (Star Trek Online) is released most of the smaller platforms like, Vendetta and EVE will see their numbers drop significantly.

zamzx zik,
1. I have no evidence of the Dev's having a dynamic method of creating new systems.
2. True, which is why I suggested caution.
3. Concur.
4. Are you sure? I believe that I was on topic, as I interpret it. The topic is expanding the area of play. Possibly introducing other faction/nations as is needed.
I do hope that when I become as god-like as you I will also be as self assure and arrogant as you are.

There are hardly any numbers which can drop from VO, drysonbennington ;) As for EVE, it is quite a popular MMO, so I'm not sure it qualifies for "smaller platform".
But yes, any new space MMO could take a bite out of VO. X Universe is on the way, and if it is anything like the X games, it might, at least, feature a rather good piloting engine/ships physics. Jumpgate is also in for a remake, and there is a fourth space MMO coming as well. Rough times ahead, perhaps, but I have yet to see a game which can match VO for speed, action and adrenaline...

I love my life.
In the reality of space travel and if the storyline of VO is correct about humanity reaching farther into the reaches of space then the time line will have "burps" or unexpected happenings that occure. This would come in the guise of encountering a a log extinct civilization from which to gain new technological advances or a conflict between humanity and an invasive civilization bent on Universal dominance, or a paranoid civilization that thought they were alone in the Universe but encounter humans and a fight ensues. Another type of civilization would be the non-invasive explorer type civilization that would relish in meeting another civilization.
A twist to the last type of civilization would be a non-invasive explorer type civilization that wants to remain in solitude and would attack at the first sign of another civilization in an attmept to erase any attmepts at tracking their civilization. Life exists in the REAL Universe so in any space MMO encountering a intelligent sentient life form is in the storyline.

you just disproved your own point idiot. the fact that in real life, aliens will inevitably be discovered means that in VO, aliens should NOT exist. no further beating-down of your concept is required by me. please carry on killing your own ideas.
edit: sorry i called you an idiot. that was immature of me and i apologize

Guys, if you added more systems, you need not alter the existing ones at all. In other words, any new systems would not be a part of the existing routes and loops, so traveling around wouldn't be any harder, now would encounters in the current bottleneck areas be any less likely. If there's nothing of exceptional value in fringe systems, people need not go there unless they want the solitude. They can always get back to the main fray as easily as they left.
Point is, the devs could still add on more systems, and the playerbase would still remain largely with the existing ones. This would be a good way to prepare for an influx of players with a future re-release; the systems would already there and tested for stability, and once the new players arrive and need that space, the playerbase will fan out to cover it, with perhaps a helping nudge from the devs in the form of some new trade material on the fringes.
