Alternative game subscription

Nov 04, 2007 Nalim27 link
Hello to all.

I have suggestion to alternative game subscription. Because I'm not regular player I hate fact that game is subscribed to real world month. Because I do not want to play the game every day and I'm not happy to pay days when I do not played.

And this is reason why I suggest alternative method of subscription - similar to free trial: Player can buy for example 20-30 hours of game play for $10.

Exact hours is not important I will accept everything in range 20-30 (or more) hours.

Not regular player will prefers this way of subscriptions and regular players (that spend more than 1 hour of playing every day) will use current monthly subscriptions.

I think this can bring some new players to the game ... Guild Software, what do you think?

Short answer: they're willing to look into it to see if it's financially do-able for them, but it's not a priority at the moment.

If the monthly subscription rate is payed per hour of play VO would actually loose money as it would cost the player more to play per hour in order for VO to make a profit inorder to keep the server going and to keep the updates coming.

Perhaps a donation system should be established that if you donate a certain amount higher then the monthly subscription rate for lets say five months straight then you get maybe a one or two month free game play.

A five month donation of $25.00 a month would get you two months of free game play plus a possible line to help develop the game. $25.00 x 5 = $125.00 for five months, part of the dev team and two months of free game play.

VO isnt in the business of losing money just to make a single player happy, VO is in the business of providing an enjoyable and progressive game environment for the whole community.

There's two sides to it. People such as Nalim27 would probably end up paying less than if he were to subscribe per month, yes, since according to him he's not a regular player. On the other hand, players such as him might be more willing to subscribe in the first place.

You don't need to pay anything to help develop the game. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the PCC is a fun opportunity to get some of your ideas into the game. As it is, the gig mostly consists of using the mission the creator, but it sounds like there'll be more ways to help in the future.

Also, there are already price breaks for paying in large chunks.

One month: $9.99 - Base price
Three months: $26.99 - Savings of $2.98, roughly one and a half weeks free
Six months: $48.99 - Savings of $10.95, roughly one month free
One year: $89.99 - Savings of $29.89, roughly three months free
Two years: $159.99 - Savings of $79.77, roughly eight months free

drysonbennington: The OP suggested that Guild offer a secondary method of payment on top of the standard by-month subscription, not that it be replaced with a by-hour payment.

No matter what range of payment plans you offer, there will always be someone asking for more alternatives.

$10 a month is reasonably minimal, and anyone that considers that amount a significant concern, leaves doubt as to their viability as a profitable target audience.

There are games online that specialize in those types of target audiences, and I recommend you investigate those.
