Nasty energy lance ftw!
Charge, Gatling and Flechette Cannon that's actually worth putting on your ship.
It's dang hard to hit those tiny ships in anything bigger than a 'Taur without the aid of gatling or rockets. I'd like to see a large port, high velocity blaster that didn't do a whole lot of damage, but allowed an average heavy pilot to nail those quicker type ships once in awhile without the aid of generous auto-targeting or rocket ramming. It doesn't have to do a whole lot of damage, but needs to be fast enough to make up for slow turning speeds, and maybe pretty heavy (2500kg-ish) to differentiate it from the Mega Posi, and keep Hogs from becoming too powerful.
In addition..Hell, I'll make a new topic
if we are going to have super weapons...(damn I feel old)...may I suggest the "wave motion gun"?
Maybe this could be added to some of the obsolete blasters (positron, phase, ion etc.), but an energy weapon that would do a splash damage for about 5m only, and it would still only hit on contact and everything. The reason why is it's hard to hit the turrets on those capital ships dead on. It could be 5 powergrid so that hornets have something they excel at and so that the Ragnarok isn't the best bomber for absolutely any task.
How's about a superweapon that has a very long charge period, and which when fired (and will only fire once fully charged) completely knocks out the systems of the ship that fired it leaving them dead in space for a minute or so?
That makes the weapon super-destructive, but also makes it strictly a team weapon only and really obvious to anyone who's not asleep at the helm (large ship sitting there doing nothing, crew of bodyguards staying away from the sharp end); really just something to take down Hive systems or enemy capships.

Nukes: Been around, they were terribly effective slaughter weapons.
I agree though that some superweapons would be nice.
Lances would be pretty cool, and some heavy rails would be good.
It could be fun to have an EMP missile or cannon that can disable a ship in space for a short amount of time, leaving it vulnerable. The other option would be to simply lower the ships top speed to 10% or a fixed number (say, 10m/s) allowing the ship to still move, but with extremely limited effectiveness.
The downside of this, would be a radius charge, of say, 2,000m in a sphere, preventing pirates from engaging at close range, and giving some travel time. The larger ships with slower speed (eg: capable of holding the weapon) would take a significant amount of time to traverse the distance, giving the trader some time to get clear of the effects.
Additionally, a trader might carry an EMP Defense weapon, limiting the weapons effectiveness, and with increased versions, completely dispersing it.
Finally, a PDL (Point Defense Laser) battery could be fun, giving a trader or other ship the ability to shoot down incoming missiles (guided only) with limited effectiveness.
The PDL could get increasingly accurate and have a higher fire rate with each version.
The PDL should of course be able to automatically engage targets in a full circle, and 180 degree arc, perhaps with increased accuracy when the ship is facing into the missile.

If there would be an energy lance, there should be a way to make you less maneuverable while it's activated.
How about this: when the beam is activated, it bounces off a subspace mirror to increase its effectiveness (as it would be bouncing back and forth, so it would be way for powerful than just a straight laser). However, this mirror pulls the ship slightly down into subspace, making it heavier.
Of course, that's absolute bullshit physics, but it SOUNDS good you see.

How's about some sort of flechette gun that actually works worth a damn? The current ones pop and spit and do next to nothing at any reasonable range; how's about a high-level one with higher energy usage, lower fire rate but much better downrange hurting ability?
Wyrm,
Players have been complaining about that gun since it was introduced forever ago. The only good thing I can say for it is that it's great some of the drones carry it as standard armament. Makes them that much easier to kill.
