Make me grey already! :D
The sooner the better, and I'm sure others feel the same. I dunno if the recent '); DROP TABLE Characters;-- 's showin on the APL was momerath or something though, cos he's now a red, and I aint seen him grey since.
People might think this is a low priority, but its really not, I know it should be hard to unalign yourself, and even harder if you want to realign yourself, but I'm sure I put in that work 1000x through the years. :P

maybe there could be a system where you could change nations be going to a station and filling out a form or something. This wouldn't work between Itani and Serco, but it would work between, say, Serco and Corvus.
Well being unalligned is good and all but really the only main reason now for unallignment is pirates, and getting rid of the FF problem. And if you do get an unalligned option what would be your home station? The only real way is to be able to select what your home station will be.
What I think would be nice is having a Pirate/Blackmarket option in which your home station as Corvus. You would be disliked by the other factions and hated by the nations but you'd start off with +750 Corvus or so as is with most nations. You'd get the normal missions and combat missions and such.

I think it should be something that you choose when making your character. but since lots of people already have characters maybe you could get it from a dev if its within two months (or one month etc.) of the update. it could also (im not sure about plausibility, devs) be something that you could unlock. for instance, if yoda gets one character to KOS on every faction then he can make an alt and choose for it to be grey. that way newbs dont have to deal with everyone hating them but it's still an option for experienced players. and personally i think that having grey represent Corvus Prime is better than having it represent being unaligned if that is one of the matters being discussed here.
Idea:
To become grey, you need 800+ standing with corvus, and -1000 standing with every other faction. You gain a standing lock, where you can not gain standing with any non corvus faction.
You would need to preform a special mission to remove the standing lock, and you would return to your original faction, and reduce your corvus standing to 600 (but you would still be -1000 standing to every non corvus faction, until you did something to gain standing).
This would prevent greys from driving valks, proms, etc...

And make corvus vult and merc maud grey only?
That's a good idea, Shadoen.
I think it should be something you can choose when your making a character, like itani or serco, and it gives you +750 on all grey space operating companies.
UIT needs an enemy...
Making unaligned/grey characters KOS with non-Corvus factions isn't necessary. Incarnate's own words on the effects of making a character go unaligned:
"As it stands, all users are basically "stuck" with the nation they chose when they created the character. While we are not yet ready to have fully migratory characters (ie, able to change major nation), it should be possible for a player character to become Unaligned. This would happen via a special mechanism (missions) in Corvus stations in grayspace. If a user chose to do this, they would immediately become Temp KoS with all major Nations (Serco, Itani, UIT) for a week, all their Major Nation standings would be cut in half and they would incur a 50% penalty on standing increases with major Nations for the next three months. Unaligned characters would not be allowed to advance beyond "Neutral" with any major Nation, but could progress to any normal extent with minor factions.
The logic to this being, they are essentially giving up their citizenship with the lawful nation who has nurtured and trained them. By turning their back on the lawful nation, they are seen as somewhat traitorous by all other nations (even Itani vs Serco, the Serco may hate the Itani, but they are sticklers for honour). Essentially, this is seen by all Lawful nations as a step to becoming a pirate, and they react appropriately.
The penalties for doing this, however, are not forever (aside from the Neutral standing cap), and it's still possible for Unaligned player characters to pursue roles other than piracy. They are limited in their advancement possibilities with the major nations, who do not trust turncoats, but even that might be possible to change with time. In the long run, there might be difficult mission trees which permitted an unaligned character to apply for citizenship with a major nation." (source)
