Customizable ships
Well I was thinking about all this capship business and I thought to myself that it would be pretty lame to see everyone in the same kind of ship all the time!!! So I tried to come up with customizable ships. It’s very hard to explain so please don’t ridicule it too much. =)
First off you wouldn’t be forced to customize your ship, how it works is you buy a certain ship, and then you could add or take away from that ship. So it would kind of work like this: You could buy a ec-89 to start with and then add on to it to turn it into a vulture but let me get into detailed about upgrades first.
Ship design:
Well now that I have told you what this is about lets get started. Ship design will be how you want your ship to look like. Color, wingspan if you want them, length, and width of the hull. Such things like that. NOTE: this is crucial to upgrading other things because you can’t fit 3 small ports on an ec-89 size ship lol.
Hull Plating (Armor):
Next on the agenda is the amount of hull or quality of hull (from carbonic to heliocene) to be placed on your ship increasing how much damage your ship can take before being obliterated! What you could do is on the customize screen select the option to buy more hull plating on your ship costing different amounts depending on how much hull you want to add and the type of hull. In 1000 hull increments.
Engines and power cells:
Now that we have all that hull on the ship how is it going to move!!!! Well you could add more engines to the ship and each engine will cost different depending on how much thrust it contains. And depending on what engines you chose and how many to be placed on your ship (if you have the room on it explained in ship design) you will need more power. So instead of making heavier power cells you could put more on your ship increasing how fast you can go, like if you have 3 engines on your ship that each takes 50 energy per second. to get infi turboing you would need three fast charge power cells out fitted on your ship to compensate for all that energy loss etc.
Shields:
this is even harder to explain than engines! Well first off with shields is the shield generator. You could buy more powerful shield generators such as magnetic shielding all the way up to cloaking or deflective shield generators. Now then, all of these generators would ALSO require energy so you would need more power cells dedicated to keeping the shield on, ok I think I got past the hard part, here’s the rest. there would be an on/off switch for turning on and off your shield so you can use that energy for something else like diverting the power to increase weapon strength or increase power to the engines to get the most out of the engines you outfitted (nope that was still hard to explain) . NOTE: cloaking is not a shield it just makes you invisible for the most part =).
Explaining this custom thing just gets harder and harder but once everyone understands, it should be awesome. Let’s continue

Weapons so far are only in use to destroy small ships such as player controlled ones so far. And if you try really hard, you can solo a HAC. But what about the leviathan? Haven’t you ever wanted the power to fight a leviathan by your self and win?
Well you still cant lol. but you will be able to get more power full weapons for pvp combat with a price and again you need power but you shouldn’t need to put more power cells on if you already have 3-4 for the engines because your not really going to use engines during combat unless your running =). Shields are another problem. You would need to either pick between weapons or shields depending on how much energy each one needs. Like if you’re using duplex phasers that’s going to need more energy than popcorn. And if you’re using deflective shields, that’s going to need more power than magnetic shields, which is almost 0 to no shields. so it all depends on how much money you’ve spent on getting your ship upgraded, whether or not you want to have weapons or not. Torpedoes are another thing I wanted to add. Torpedoes we all know (unless you don’t watch star trek) are modified mines that are launched toward a target (yes they could be homing) and explode on impact.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, I would like to say HOLY COW THAT’S A LOT OF STUFF. But this would definitely add to the selection of ships available because there could also be a thing where players can sell there designed ships for a certain amount. AND it would also help out the economy problem because upgrading your ship to the max would definitely cost more than what it costs now.
Just think about what I've said and please comment. I'm open to suggestions NOTE: don’t completely throw my idea out the window; it was very hard to explain all of this.

they used to have engines that you could take out of ships and put in others, but people would be putting prom engines into cents and stuff, it also looks like adding wings and stuff would really make alot of work for the devs, and i really dont want my ec89 to turn into a vult, that sounds weird.

well the idea was to not just add engines. but to completely redesign a ship into something else. Forget about the ec-89 thing. basically you buy a basic ship and you can customize it how you like.
well the ships and weapons are made specifically so that none is the best, customizing would either make alot of work for the devs or mess up the fairly balanced ships.
why is every one...(or does it just seem that way)...against customizable or new ships? I mean right now...(thoughI love the game)...what we have is,
1. limited missions
2. PvP
3. limited ships
4. limited verions of the same ships for all factions
and that seems to be about it. the worst part is that with all the potential the game has is that it doesnt seem to be going anywhere. I know there are weekly updates but overall nothing seems to change game play wise.
being able to customize or chose new ships would be great in that at least it would be some thing new for the players.
oh well, Im sure this will be shot down like anything else that dares suggest change.

I just thought that custom ships would make the game more interesting. or something like everyone having a personal ship that would be different from everyone elses. and the upgrades having increase in cash each time would solve the conomy problem because if someone that has the BEST ULTIMATE SHIP that cost them millions got shot down, ALL THAT MONEYS GONE. and they would have to work very hard to get it all back. what im trying to say overall is that. ship designs and money could become a whole lot more valuable than what they are now
Customability in that sense would change combat in VO from a strategic war into an economic war. Arguably, economics is what war is all about, but is it fun?
