Escort Missions: More Standing, Less cash
I somehow -1000ed my Xang Xi standing. Since there's no way to fix it (...) my only option is to do escort missions to Xang Xi Stations. So, I took my first escort, from Latos to Sedina, and bam! I got 1 measly standing point... and SIX HUNDRED THOUSAND CREDITS.
I don't need that much money to fly for 3 minutes, but I really need to fix my standing. At that rate, it will take me 401 mission to get to a point where I land and do bulk procurements, and I'll make 240 MILLION credits.
So can we please like, balance this?

I've done the same thing. I'm working on it right now... Sometimes it's half a point. The best way to do it is to take convoys through ion storms and go nuts... It's a pain in the ass.
cmon its only half a work week, seriousley though i dont mind th high payouts, it probably should be lower, maybe 75% of what it is now and 5 points per mission, that'd make it take 4 hours, a bit more sane.

tumble is totally right. It sucks way too much to get back standing once you get undockably low, and escort missions pay way too much. look's solution is a good one to get nice balance...and I don't think it would be that hard to implement?
I tend to agree with Tumble. Escorts are paying way to much , and the weighting should be adjusted in favour of standing and xp .
Certainally , until the reward for escorts is tied into a dynamic economy .

Why should working up standing be made even easier? Wouldn't that break the standing system still further? Just drop the creds to a bearable level, say, 10k to 100k a pop.
Tumble, welcome to the wonderful world of standing grinding.
For further tricks on your new, mindnumbingly boring job, you can ask me or yoda. He managed to recover, I'm on my way (if I could play, of course, which I'm prevented).
And don't listen to who says it's easy. They are confusing recovering standing with a nation with recovering standing with a corporation having few stations, all in greyspace, surrounded by roid fields where the easiest bot is an Arklan.

that shit is NOT easy. it sucks alot. also, (warning:pirate whining to ensue) now that the escort missions pay so insanely, there is a significant drop in Behemoth attendance in grey space. i.e. i get bored, and end up pirating hogs and vults (wtf).
i escort mission'd up my xang once and it SUCKED, and i wasn't even that bad off.. something around -500 or so. with Kat and tumble's situation, it's almost impossible without spending a good 100 hours in-game trying to find escorts that are going to the right place.
basically: i agree.. nerf the payout, and buff the standings a little. make trading in grey alive again! :D

If the payout is nerfed, then the bonuses for kills on the mission should be buffed, preferably make them dependent on WHAT you kill. The easiest way I can think of is to make it based on the Combat xp the agressor has, so an orun woulden't give you much but a queen might bring in a lot. Also killing PC aggressors should be worth more than NPC aggressors.
That would produce something several people have been asking for over the course of the past couple years; A way to make money without incredibly boring trading and mining.
Actually Flag, we could start demanding people on escorts pay us not to wreck their voy, they lose pay depending on how many NPC traders we destroy.

look, Pirates, this is the penalty for repeatedly killing players in corporate monitored space, by the station. It wasn't 1 transgression, it was a series of crimes that you committed. You knew the penalty, so stop whining, and deal with it.
If you *ever* get your standing back, then don't do it again - station killing players is not right.
And, what l.n.h. said: it's only half a week of work if you put your back into it. Or, you could delete your alt, and start a new alt, and spend half a week leveling up. Problem solved.
[Stamp of Disapproval]tm
if you make it easy to faction up, then the penalty for griefing and station-killing will become, well, pretty meaningless.

Thats fine dipshit, except I didn't actually do anything to cause the standing loss.
Foo, isn't player killing that screws up standing.
Actually, player killing CANNOT tank your standing to -1000, even if the killed player is POS. So pirates killing players near stations are not what we complain about here.
My -998 with Tunguska (I was at +210) was the result of dropping two l-mines during a takeoff in Odia H6 by error: I thought I had different l-port weapons in my Taur. Some guards were killed, and BAM!, I was a -998. There were NO players involved, as I'm not a pirate.
And lnh (as usual) has no idea what he's talking about. The "half week work" myth is appropriate EXCLUSIVELY for nation (Serco, Itani, UIT) standing recovery.
For grey space only corporations (Tunguska, Xang Xi, Aeolus, Ineubis), it's completely different.
1) The escorts can be taken only from UIT and other corps, since Itani and Serco never have trade routes toward aforementioned grey-only corps.
2) You need ~400 such missions to start working on recovery.
3) Every time you take an escort from station A of corp X to station B of corp Y (the one you tanked), the escort in A disappears. So you need to perform a pilgrimage around stations even only to FIND suitable escorts. For every mission reset - I don't know how often they happen - you can have only so many available missions at once.
4) Not all stations offer escorts to the tanked corp destinations. The pilgrimage can yield no result in entire gold/grey space. Theoretically, each one of the gold/grey stations can have an escort for your tanked faction stations, but it's never the case. I found myself wandering along the CSR route, looking for escorts, and finding NONE for days. Half week work is a wet dream.
5) To speed up things, you must HOPE that the voy crosses a storm, since killing voy attackers gives you another standing point per kill.
6) As direct effect of destinations being only in grayspace, almost no voy route cross roid sectors with "storm full of oruns". That may be the case with Itani and Serco space. But again, it's not the case in gold/grey. Who says that has no idea what he's talking about. If you are EXTREMELY lucky, you find routes going thru roid fields with Valents and Tycorps (a couple in Verasi). Most often Aputechs and Ornes. Or Arklans. Or Devuses... When three dual-agt Arklans are peppering you in a storm, I assure you it's not THAT pleasant to think you should grind ~400 of them to hope that those fucked SFs stop firing at you when you bring them your voy, and let you dock!
7) To receive one standing point, you must kill the hivebots when the voy is in the storm. It's pointless to start botting before - thinking you can clear the way in advance, as avantgarde of your voy - or when the voy left the storm. So, not only you must hope to hit a storm, but you must also hope to hit a LONG storm, so you have enough time to kill enough hivebots to make it worthwhile. At times, with Devus in Pelatus for example, you might take too long to punch thru the guardians' massive armor, if the storm is too short and the voy passes by too quickly!
8) In case you fuck up standings with factions that are system exclusive, like Tunguska in Edras, or Ineubis in Pelatus, you're also prevented to finish the totally unrelated prospector miner badge. I cannot finish it because devs moved the UIT and Itani Edras stations back in their nationspace, so I cannot finish the mining badge until I recover with Tunguska enough to dock at Edras G11.
To sum it up: I agree, as I said countless times, that actions should have consequences. But considering how mild the consequences are for EVERY other action in the game (see "death should have consequences" threads), I find that this ridiculous way to recover standing with grey corps could be buffed a bit.
We continuously hear players making fun of WoW as a "grinding game". The greycorp faction recovery makes VO no less grinding than WoW.

syylk If you want to disagree with what i say, actaully read what i wrote,
I said half a work week as in 20 hours, not half a week of work, I came to this simply with the numbers tumble supplyed in his first post.
EDIT:
as for the storm full of Oruns, I was being sarcastic, I've seen that twice, never along the route to any station. Sorry if you misunderstood me on that.
"I don't need that much money to fly for 3 minutes, but I really need to fix my standing. At that rate, it will take me 401 mission"
I rounded it to 400 missions at 3 mins a mission.
400missions X 3minutes = 1200 minutes
1200 minutes ÷ 60 minutes in an hour = 20 hours (half a 40 hour work week the standard in the US)
Yes, I realize theres actually well more than 3 minutes work in FINDING the mission and DOING the mission combined. I used tumbles conservative figures so traders wouldn't bitch that I was blowing it out of proportion.

I agree less cash maybe 33% less and make the max 100k per sector. And i agree more faction maybe 2 points per sector.

Nope, incorrect, I understood he was talking about Corp faction.
As for Nation faction (Serco, Itani, UIT) it's actually about 2 - 4 hours if you know what you're doing (i.e. 1 evening).
I would agree that factioning up a Corporate in Grey Space is at least 1 order of magnitude harder than Nation faction :-(
I'm sorry to hear you're in such a pickle for accidentally killing some station guards.
As for dipshit's protestations of innocence :
"I didn't actually do anything to cause the standing loss" - tumblemonster
They are just another example of his lies and deceit. tumblemonster necessarily must have committed crimes in those corporates monitored areas, to loose faction massively (They don't arbitrarily dock your faction points for no reason). Which is entirely consistent with his RP and his reputation.

There are three things that dock your standing with a faction:
- Aborting trade guild missions assigned by that faction
- Killing players with Admire or POS rating in that faction's NFZ
- Killing a Station Guard, Marshal or Strike Force pilot for that faction.
Only the last two have any chance of causing that large of a standing hit; and the latter of them is far more likely to give a full KOS rating, unless the player is already hated (prior to the temp-KOS) by the faction in question when they kill an Admired/POS pilot in the faction's NFZ. There's no way your standings can change without direct action on your part, unless a guide or dev modifies them. General courtesy would demand that a guide or dev who does something like that would let the player in question know that their standings have been changed, but if there hasn't been any admission of any sort, there's no reason to believe that the player had nothing to do with it.
