jump gameplay enhancement needed.
So i like your game, but there is a gameplay issue I think the dev's could solve.
Jumping. Look- we love your graphic. its hot. its all pretty and blue... but after watching the thing for the 100th time jumping gets...whats that word?
lame. (to watch). it takes forrrrever!
Just make this stuff more interactive. hide the loading better.
Its a big universe- and to keep the community excited, I think it would be best to prolong the fun parts, and hide the boring ones.
Here would be an example of a fix:
You jump- let the whole process be as quick as possible. hell- dont move to the external view even, keep it in the cockpit- load the next piece of layout behind the scenes, shake the hell out of the view and blind the player with white sparkly junk for 3 seconds.
Make us feel like we're going through a rift in time and space =)
theres always a hard balance between exciting the newbies and rewarding the vets in a big game like this, but I think that maneuvering around the universe could be enhanced by keeping us in the world by not suddenly locking us out of the universe for a cut scene. This isnt a movie. its a world, right?
just my 2 cents.
=)

there are only 4 devs and they have to work on way much more important stuff.
Also, you first say that the animation gets lame after the 100th time, and that it should be changed to "shake the hell out of the view and blind the player with white sparkly junk"...would that actually make it better?
Though I would prefer more loading pictures! That pic of that planet in the loading screen is boring...

yeah, the load image idea is a good one. If you had like even 20 different loading pics, and you got one at random each time, you'd have to wait a long time before you saw all 20. (approximately 72 tries on average). A bit like seeing random gametips.
i only recommended one fix. if you think thats annoying i must have miscommunicated my issue.
I dont think a player should have to go through anything consistently. You're already asking about going through different loading pics... why do we have to see a loading pic? Can't we just stay in this universe?
And this important right along with the things the devs are already working on- increasing the realism of the station screens- adding details to the world.
I'm not asking them to rehack an entire animation sequence - im merely pointing out a place where continuity is broken. i.e. loading screens between jumps, considering many of us make a lot of jumps it doesnt make sense that jumps should take the player out of the universe. Rather than place more loading screen pics why not just load the next place during the jump sequence?
heck allow people to fuck up the jump even =)

lol, no worries spawrks, about other people fucking up the jumps. It can already be done. Its called warp-killing. Some people whine about it, others enjoy it.
I dunno about the rest, but i think that sectors cant be loaded while the jump animation is going on, precisily because while the jump is happening, you are still in that sector, and other things happen simultaneously, ex: like players killing you when you warp, so its kinda complicated.

This has, or rather ideas pertaining to loading have been suggested before. The search function is not really broken, it just needs a little coaxing.
