Just finished trial and purchased 1 yr. My thoughts
First off. Very nice game.
I had been looking into a space commerce/mining/combat game and think this fits the bill nicely. Also runs very well on my older machine with textures set up pretty high.
3 Things I would suggest that would really make this an A+ game.
Bear in mind these are concepts borrowed from other games, but it's all I have as references. These are parts that the others have in the game that I like, but some fall short in other areas.
1) From X2: The threat.
The exterior world felt more space-like. They did interesting things in the environment, like lense flare as you scanned across a large star. There were nebulae in the surrounding atmosphere. You couldn't fly into them as I recall but there was more on the outer plane then just black and stars.
I'll fire it up and get some screenshots, or you can go to the developer site and look at some there.
2) Sort of from EV: Nova.
But frankly just a thought of my own. Allow me to pick up multiple quests. There's no reason I can't be out scanning roids for a prospecting quest, and be hunting bots, and be shuttling items for trade. Shouldn't be too hard to implement. What a total non-programmer thing to say. Sorry.
3) From EVE.
Even though I haven't played, it's my impression that the commerce and trade skill system is a little more advanced. I'd like to be able to do something with the ore I mine. Let me take it to a special kind of station and refine it (the type I can refine could depend on mining skill,) then maybe go someplace else and build something with it (perhaps dependant on mining or trade skill.) Like weapons, or ship parts, or better ships, or even just better versions of raw mats to sell.
Anyway, my thoughts.
Hope they are taken as intended and keep up the good work.
Thanks,
BacklashMac

Well, I just looked at some screenshots from VO that I may have missed before, and noticed some nebulae in the outer areas. Perhaps it just wasn't something I noticed while playing myself, or was seeing in the zones I was in.
I will UL some screenies anyway (if allowed) to illustrate what I meant. Perhaps after looking at the other game again it won't look as good as I recall.
Thanks,
BLM

Also, lens flare doesn't really make sense. It's an artifact of photography. Presumably, there are no lenses involved here...
The multiple Missions suggestion has been posted before, but not recently. It's still a good idea.
And, congrats on your subscription! Have fun playing VO :)

Welcome to VO, BacklashMac!
We'd love to allow multiple missions. It would require some interface changes, but isn't terribly difficult. The problem is that suddenly there are N-factorial combinations of missions to test (assuming you can't take the same mission multiple times). Most of these combinations would cause no problems, but there are bound to be a few that break one or more of the missions you're taking, and sometimes these breakages will be beneficial to your character (exploit) or detrimental to another character (worse exploit). Or maybe the unforeseen bad-combo just puts your character into a broken state that doesn't cause obvious problems until later, but results in one of us spending hours figuring out what went wrong when it does, and in you being unable to use your character properly until we do.
Yes, other games do allow multiple missions, but those missions are typically *very* simplistic, and though there may nominally be hundreds or thousands, they are just decoration for the same few simple missions (fedex, kill some rats, talk to bob). What we'll hopefully be able to do (when it filters up to the top of our list), is specify and/or infer potential conflicts in the mission definitions and disallow just those combos.

I was thinking about something similar to multiple missions recently. I don't know if I would want to take three or four missions at once, but I would LOVE to be able to take a mission from outside a station. If I can communicate with players on the other side of the galaxy on 100, why can't I communicate with stations? Perhaps the devs could set up another chat channel where stations broadcast missions they are offering? Perhaps missions could be an addendum to the daily trade report, or maybe a daily mission report downloaded to the PDA each day?
Quick reply to say that there will be stuff to do with the minerals that you mine, eventually. A crafting system is in the plans, though probably a long way off.
(For a quick breadown of the features VO will offer eventually, check out the "Planned features" section in the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendetta_Online ).

There'll be an entirely new mission interface, in due course, which will be available anywhere.. not just in stations. That's actually why the mission thing is in your PDA (which is all supposed to be universal). But, we still need a new interface that has a lot of options for sorting by proximity, mission type, reward, and so on.
We're also looking at special-case NPC given missions. Although those will probably be a minority.
Also, welcome BacklashMac :)

Thanks for all the replies.
Sounds like much of what I'm looking for is at least on the list.
I may have misspoke. The term len sflare is not correct. Can't say what to call it.
Let's call it just flare.
I have some screenies that enclude the environment nebulae and the flare, but not sure where/how to post em in this thread.
Anyway, thanks for the replies and a great game. See ya in there.

Hmmmm, well if the multiple mission thing is implemented I would like some missions be not allowed to be taken with another mission like Liberation (Look at my "Liberation" thread in the suggestions section to view the whole rant.). Also there might be the issue of taking missions from wherever you are where missions like procurement... But otherwise I wouldn't mind a more interactive backround (as far as flare from the sun goes). Just whatever you do, don't make the stars fly past you like they're little glowy white specks floating 5 feet from your ship like they do in all those other movies.
