Frigates, Freightors, Corvetts and Capital ships
First off sorry for the spelling. I know you have placed in the queen and all, but I would like to see a number of larger ships (including in class, type) in the game. Maybe as a special event that happens a number a times a day or something. Of course make the large ships NPCs. Which can be escorted and raided.
I think it would be fun to raid a group of corvetts, frieghters, or capital ships. Obviously the balancing of this would be important.
But I think getting a raiding party of 10 to 20 people against a capital ship and it's fighters would be wild, or protecting the capital ship from 10 to 20 others would be fun too.

apparently, no one cares.
i feel for you though. and, you might actually catch one of them rare dev- or guide- spawned cappies war we used to love.

Well actually if you read that link that you sent me... The guys want to own a capital ship... I am talking about making them NPC (non-playable characters). There is a major difference. Like I mentioned before, for the purpose of doing something like a raid mostly against a small armada. Group of players can get together and raid the capital ship and it's escorts. The capital ships group can be all NPC for that matter.
Or it can be Corvetts, Frigates, Freightors ... the lot... just a thought. (yes I realize you have the queens - essentually seeming to be the same setup.)
On a capital ship... I am takling large... so cannons and such are spaced out and such... that way they have to have the fighters and all.
Anywho - just and idea.

It's great idea, and I think few would say no to it. "When" is probably the most important facet of it, though. "Not now", would probably be a good bet. "Soon™" is probably another one ;-)
From what I remember from old posts, the devs have always planned differen classes of ships, and I think we can take for granted those same ships will show up as NPCs, in different loadouts and armada configurations.
The levi and the queen are a step towards raid-focused gameplay, from what I can recall, and I'm betting we will see different NPC groups with many different sizes of ships eventually. Not to mention the player armadas, once the first capital ship tears it way through the walls of whatever nation capital that invents them first but forgets to re-size the docking bays...

shadow, what you fail to realize (and everyone else in the linked post) is that we currently have that we need to implement just what you're talking about.
rather than wait for some guide / dev / timed-mission to kick it off, any guild could have the power to launch the pre-routed course cappy, at a (frickin) cost. no one would drive it. it's basically the same thing that guides used to do when they'd initiate a cappy war.
the point is threefold:
1. to have fun NOW, when the moment is appropriate in-game (and not have to schedule this weeks in advance with a guide)
2. to give at least one frickin reason to guild up
3. give us a reason to waste all that cash being accumulated
you're only point of difference is that you want a group of players to attack an npc armada. what you want is to take on the border skirmish mission.
i'd rather play against other humans and have a ball at attacking their cappy, or defending ours. or an all-cappy war. those are frickin cool events.

Well.. Do you have to have them fit in Docking bays... or can you have a ship yard instead?
Most armadas are to go fight wars and convoys are delievering things. Which means neither of which need to use the docking bays.
The convoys (larger ships) could dock with a part of the space station that protrudes from it - simulating a loading dock. If there is other larger ships they could also dock assuming there is more room somewhere, or they would have to wait at a distance from the station. This would clear up the problem with moving, adjusting, or re-developing most of the Space Stations since there is really no need for the larger ships to get in the docking bay.
As for the Armada's with large ships, they can go back to a location that has a ship yard. This could be a much larger structure that takes in the large ships, and it could be put close enought to the space station (usually should be setup in a sector that is for the most part *well off* as far as money, for staying in line with real world throught process)(I would also say that not to many ship yards should be availible, but at least two to one per nation).
I believe the ship yard would clear up alot of development issues for the large ships to exist. The ship yards could build, repair, keep the ships safe. Obviously the large ships would all have to come back to theship yards to be repair for major damages. The ship yards could also have defensive avalibility to ward off offenders.

Here's the official word.
if anyone of you going lalalala with fingers in their ear drums were on-line tonight during the big capship fight, that's what i mean.
you dont need a launch bay to create/spawn a cap ship. it would just pop into a nearby sector, notify you of it's location and members go board it. after a delay, it goes on to it's pre-determined destination.
no need for launching bay. no need for a driver's seat.
tonight's ultra-rare cappy war event was a god-sent (actually, a guide-sent) event. it brought a whole lot of players together, we had fun and even after the cappies went out, players stayed a bit longer for an encore.
even the lag was tolerable given the size of the battle. that's the most fun i had in vo in a long while.
and tha'ts what i'm talking about. guild-spawned cappies. for a fee.

Dude... Sarah couldn't even get them to warp into B-8 properly. Talk about "lalalala with fingers in their ear drums"-ing. In the words of incarnate, "We're also still having performance and navigability problems with capships on the server."
