I noticed that there are a lot of empty sectors around that no one seems to use. A lot of empty sectors.
So why not sell the sectors to players in-game and then allow them to stock it with whatever kind asteroids they want? Heck, maybe even a custom made space station and the ability to ban others from your sector by issueing a kill-on-sight order to your AI border patrol guards....
Well? wouldnt that be completely awsome?!?

hehe, awesome. I want Sedina A-08.
Location. Location. Location.
I want Deneb C-10.
What? I'll set up a lemonade stand. All that fighting MUST make you thirsty!

Darn, I thought this was gonna be one of those "Adopt-A-Highway" ideas.
Just think: You can stock an entire sector with as many heliocene filled asteroids as you could eat, and have as many drones run around for target practice as you want... for a hefty price of course, otherwise it wouldnt be fair.
Cool idea, but it will not fit in when the new economy comes around.(if ever...)
I think sectors should become at least partially customizable. I'm not saying that you should be able to make asteroids pop out of nowhere though... that's just silly. As for Stations, ammo depots, random item storage facilities, I think that we are moving towards these ideas.

Well, you wouldnt just have asteroids "pop" out of nowhere, you'd have to hire NPCs
to "tow" asteroids from "other sectors" and into your sector.
Then you set how much of what orre you want in the asteroids (you would purchase them in groups of 10 or more) and depending on how much of whatever ore you picked would determine the cost, that way you couldnt fill up all your roids with heliocene without it costing you greatly, and there would be a limit to how many roids a sector can have, and different sectors could have different roid limits.
see? that fixes everything!

Nice try, but it just opens up too much for abuse.
why the hell would u buy the ore? dosent that defeat the purpose of mining in ur own sector?
Hence, abuse.
whoa... wait a minute... y would u mine in yur own sect if u already bought the ore...
Shut up, there's no point talking more about this. Just be quiet. Buying asteriods is retarded. End of discussion.
im just gonna shut up
clearly im thinking about probability and other crap... oh wait what if you mine in another persons sector u would have to pay a small fee... say 5-100 creds or even if u dont pay the owner could hire as many Guards and NPCs as he wants and they would shank u again and again unless u pay or escape in some 007 style fashion?

No. Anyone should be able to mine anywhere at their own risk of getting shot. Arrangements to mine "someone else's" ore can be made in-game.
ahh thats a good point... hehe i just saw like 5 newbs getting fried by like 17 guards while mining in UIT...
Well, it's not really that common to see people getting killed inside their respective pee-pools while mining, but in grey space it's a lot more common.
when i was a nub i was trapped in corus hold cause some asshole was blocking the exits and incase i got back out he would fry my ass
Grr, why cant you people see the light? Think: Buying your own customize-able sector adds variety, and variety is the spice of life! Plus it would stimulate player economies cause stations require food and hydraulic fluid and all that other crap you can buy in the commerce sections, so other players running low on that stuff can hire other players to run back and forth procuring those items for them, or buy in bulk, etc.
See??? who WOULDNT want that?!? YOUR OWN SECTOR! I bet that feature alone would make people wanna pay for a VO subscription!
Guild owned sectors, pirate sectors, Player owned mining corps., trade syndnacits HQs, Whatever you want!

The reason nobody is talking about it on your thread, is that it has been talked to death on other threads. That and the developers have clearly stated the direction the economy, and this sort of thing is heading in.
There is a big bold "PLEASE READ PRIOR TO POSTING A SUGGESTION" at the very top of the suggestions forum that leads to here

Maybe now would be a good time to do that?

I think we'd better get used to seeing a LOT more posts like this, especially when V-O starts advertising. Because NO-ONE reads the "Previous Suggestions" thread.
Everyone thinks they have the best idea ever and that NO-ONE could ever have thought it up before. When in fact, most everything in this forum now is a re-hash or at least a partial re-hash of suggestions made years ago.
Whistler's doing a bang-up job along with the rest of the guides, but there really does need to be some hands-on moderation when we're flooded with hundreds of more players. Everyone will want to post their "OMG totally awesome ideaz!"
Just a thought. We could probably make the suggestions forum locked for new threads, and force everyone to post ideas in a newly-organized forum based off of the "Read this before posting" idea list.
To sum up:
Vets: Get used to n00bs posting lots of previously-discussed ideas and learn to relax & take it in stride when they do.
N00bs: Read the damn "Read This Before Posting A New Suggestion" thread. Realize that there's already 5 years of posted ideas in this game, and there's a good chance that the "vets" have discussed your idea to death already.
