Make it on the agenda to allow the mods to block certain people from posting

Perhaps by making the webboards require a certain status (let's call it karma) This is kinda like the moderators status; only everyone has it. Make it so you can't post without said karma. Then you give the moderators the ability to take away karma, or give it. So basicly, when you make a stupid flaming post, one time too many, a moderate can give you bad karma (setting your status from "Good karma" to "bad karma") So when you post, it says "You cannot post on these fourms with bad karma" or something of that short. Savvy?

Thus, the moderators can get rid of all these dumb postings that have been happening lately.

Just a idea to help you guys out

There's already an existing ticket to allow separate "muting" of users on the boards vs the game. This would follow similar rules to existing mutes, in that it can be set for a given period of time.

One problem:
If someone is silly enough to get blocked from the forums, that person would be more than silly enough to spawn a gazillion new accounts, and continue to be silly on the forum.
More so than before, most likely.

repeat offenders could have their ip blocked. most forums system have that.

i'm actually surprised we haven't seen viagra spammers yet on vo.

coalitionofitan.org's forums already got a couple of those and i blocked their asian ip ranges.

Yah, noticed that, uc. GOOD JOB!

Anyway, you can implement captcha features to prevent registration of idiots, but having to confirm a captcha on every post would be tedious.

We've got a +/- karma on CoalitionofItan boards, but it doesn't do anything except make me look cool 'cause I granted myself like +5000 Karma.

But, if only the devs could grant or "smite" your Karma, then you'd be fine.

And as far as the IP blocking, there are methods of blocking ranges of IP with very granular control built-in to SMF, as well as correlation tools that allow you to associate ranges of IP addresses with users. So if one a-hole kept trying to create new accounts after being blocked, he'd be found-out pretty quickly.

And, since the Vendetta game is technically supposed to be a "closed" system, you could easily block the creation of new accounts by someone with the same credit card or IP or whatever. At least, then, there's a barrier to continuing to make asinine posts. N00b "Demo" players would not be able to post on the boards, but I leave that to you all to determine whether that's a good or bad thing.
