small idea for faction standing
it'd be neat if faction standings slowly reverted to 0 if you didnt do anything for the faction. in this way, you would need to keep a relationship with the faction to stay at your high rating. for example, why should a person like you if you haven't meet for 50 years. maybe its a bad example, but you know what i mean.
oh come on doesnt anyone think anything about this idea?
What if the person goes on a RL trip for a few months and finds all his/her factions reset to 0 when s/he comes back? I would be very pissed if that happened to me.
I don't think it's that good of an idea in it's basic state. Perhaps if you added "stages", that once passed, became the new point of return. For simplicity's sake, lets say -750, -500, -250, 0, 250, 500, 750... or whatever the various stages of like, respect, admire, etc are.
Why? Well, lets say I go out and do something heroic for the Itani nation, of which I am also a citizen. I'm hailed from Deneb to Edras as the epitome of an Itani National, and become not only a household name, but a role model for generations to come. Now, if I dropped off the map for ten years, I don't think that would change all that much. I may be surplanted by a newer, shinier heroic role model, but I think upon my return I would at least still be greatly respected.
The reverse goes for criminals. Let's say I become the most infamous, murderous, treacherous criminal ever to plague the Union. I don't think that just because I drop off the map for a decade that anyone would decide that I was worthy of a fresh start. "They" might decide that I'm not as dangerous as before, perhaps out of practice a bit, but I doubt "they" would lower the threat level very much upon my return.
That said, I think it's a neat idea if done properly, and has been brought up in previous discussion concerning the faction system.

That's a good point, that you'd only be forgotten if a new, shinier hero stepped in your wake. Perhaps the new standing system can be based in relation to other players of your nation?
