Actually I don't think the Widowmaker sucks at all. In fact, I think it's right on the money.
The thing is, VO is a skill-based game, not an item-based game. If the game becomes "Do mission, get Neutron +5, +7 vs Vultures", that will rip out the heart of what VO is.
Now, Lecter (as I recall, who argued that the super-hyper-uber-autoaiming old-style Queen AAP is "balanced) wants "just rewards" for a hard mission. Fair enough, and he got the CW. Sure it's marginally better than your standard N3, but that's the point : it takes skill to take advantage of this marginal improvement. If you don't have the chops to do that, then just too bad : go fly more light fighters and stop flying around the prom with the AGT.
(on the other hand, the n3s are uber, /me runs to post another thread)

The old Hive Posi weighed 1500kgs and dropped only rarely; that's getting pretty close to ballanced. It's AGT autoaim should have been knocked to gauss autoaim and left well enough alone.
And while you're correct that we're not questing for victory here, there's no reason to jump through all these hoops for something that's so marginally improved that there's no real return on the investment.
Shit, WWL, if we take your idea to it's ultimate and obxnoious conclusion... we should all fly 1 type of ship, with the same all energy/no auto aim weapons, and the same battery. It'd be pure skill based heaven!
85% of the game would say "Fuck you, I came for a space RPG with realtime combat, not this crap", but hey, you'd have it your way!

heh Dr Lecter, you do have those ad hominem side-jabs down pat. Did they teach you to do that in law school, or is the VO forums just a way to, uh, express your inner self?
Oh yeah, on topic. Nothing to add here, since nothing is gonna change anyway.

Wait, could it be that the rewards for missions aren't always going to be a set of new and improved weapons!? Madness... maybe I should quit this game now.
If your looking for something that is more powerful than anything already in the game, then this mission isn't for you. That aside...
Notes on the mission:
I think I did die during the mission once, and I don't remember it aborting. I finally aborted for other reasons (to check the
hive skirmish missions to track down queens.) I lost the pieces I had returned to the station at that point. I then went and collect all of the parts before even starting the mission.
I did have to kill the queens myself, but does it even check for number of queen kills. Someone could just sell you the parts. I don't know if thats a good thing or a bad thing.
The guns are too rare. Thats fine on a temporary bases, but otherwise they will never see circulation.
The mission has a clear objective, resolution, and reward, all of which appeared to work well.
Conclusion:
The mission as it stands, even if viewed as a stand alone mission, is a working mission, worthy of being live on the production server.

If any of you don't like your shiny new WidowMakers please contact me ingame. I will purchase any/all widowmakers not wanted by others :)
Sure thing drazed. I have two for sale. Given the time and credits invested to obtain them, you can have them for a cool 2.5 million credits. A piece.
Corvus Widowmakers???....How much for 2?
Lesse... he said 2.5 million per.... times two......... *pings* 5 million for two! >_>
Ouch. What's so special about them?
"Ouch. What's so special about them?"
They are rare. But not worth the credits Lecter is asking.
"Lesse... he said 2.5 million per.... times two......... *pings* 5 million for two! >_>"
This is not a reasonable price. Please check who is posting such prices, as the player that asked for this price is Lecter, who is hardly human if at all, please realize that he has little understanding of the worth of things. I WILL NOT pay 2.5 million per, in fact I would not pay that for the pair. If you have a more reasonable offer for your widowmakers let me know in game. If you are as insane as Lecter please stay as far away from me as possible, I will likely /ignore you at the first oppertunity.

Time currently required to complete the mission, the only way of obtaining the two CW blasters: more than 2 hours. Let's not factor in that most people will work with another player, and therefore you two must invest enough time to get the queen parts for *two* mission completions. Shields are pesky like that; you can solo them, but that requires cleaning out the escorts first. My estimate of more than two hours per pair of CWs is more than reasonable.
Amount of credits I, or anyone else with a moth, could make in 2+ hours if trading: more than 5 million credits. Additionally, no combat skill is required to do that, nor are there any repair or ammo costs to factor in when trading.
Conclusion: I should *raise* my price to 3 million per CW, sold as a pair that would be 6 million. But I'm a generous guy and I really don't want the unique pieces of crap.
5 million for the pair stands, an eminently reasonable price if you want CWs. If not, then yeah, there's better ways to spend 2+ hours of your time (5 million being the economic translation of 2+ hours of time)... which is my point about the mission.

Yes, because the only reward for killing queens are the Widow Makers. It's not like you get superior hive-based weaponry on the occasional drops, nice experience added to your license levels should you need 'em, and access to additional future missions that will yield greater rewards if you invest the necessary time at the beginning. And hunting queens is obviously less fun than trading, the better use of one's time, especially given the incredible use people have for surplus credits. (By the way, I was being sarcastic.)
Hive hunting is it's own reward already. The devs just made a mission about it, kind of like how trading already gets you money, the devs just made missions telling you where to go and why.

/me yawns
I already have superior Hive weapony coming out my ears, killing queens *is* about on par with trading these days, my license levels ceased to matter a year and change ago and I could invest the same amount of time in the future to get the flag without having to wait for the next rewards/missions. I often find it useful to have millions of credits to throw around.
The point is moot, of course, because I think Inc. said he pulled the mission. Which makes these CWs a rare bird indeed.
Price is a steal at 5M for the pair.

my 2 cents time!
if a mission is going to be wicked hard and give you a pair of guns at the end of it that you can never get again then those guns should be so uber and out of balance that anyone seen with them should be swarmed by the other players for an awesome battle royale! short lived gun, awesome fun
