Revamping the /mute and /ignore functions
I know these have been suggested before. I want to ram them home again, though, because I think they're minor but important features.
This is an MMORPG. As such, some people roleplay. And some of the characters have conflicts with others, other characters are just plain asses. That is their personality. The character itself doesn't really reflect the person behind it. One could be griefer yet be the nicest person out of character.
And thus, /mute and /ignore come into play. /mute, I think, should go by character basis, not account. In ADDITION to this, their account has a flag placed of some sort (Dunno if the guides already have this), sort of a "Watch this guy just in case" marker. This will get a message across well enough that the person should not repeat his inflammatory ways on other characters that aren't normally that way. If they do, well, then the guides can do as they see fit.
/ignore should be by character, in my opinion, as well. Let me take two of my characters for example: Lemon Lime (a serco) and Random Commander (another Serco). Lemon Lime is a serco nationalist and might /ignore Itani that are just too thick headed to be worth talking to. Random Commander, as the name says, is just there to be random, sarcastic and cynical. He wouldn't ignore anyone because everyone is a target open for pranks :)~

aka, no.
someone who actually gets muted in-game for being an ass would probably not stop at his character. if he's using temp accounts just to be an ass, at least this forces him to register a newer account.
if he's using his main account for being an ass, then he gets his ass wiped clean for a while and eventually comes outs fresh.
we've waiting long enough for /vote mute to be meaningful/useful/working enough, lets justify this wait by:
- not being asses
- making those who can't resist really pay for it.
even today there is plenty of crap on public channels. but i'm willing to accept some if the /vote mute actually means something in the end.
(i love google)

Mmm, yes. I had a very shaky view of the /vote mute command suggestion. But I definitely would like to see the /ignore function per character.
I believe /ignore is on a charater basis now.
I don't mind /mute being on a character basis, with the provision that if two of your characters get muted, it becomes an account mute.
I don't like the vote system for mute. I think the voting system need more work than the mute itself does.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't /ignore on the clientside?
If so, it can't be account-wide without exposing all alts in an account to whomever is ignoring.
Mute per-character is fine, I think, unless it's permanent.
If someone does get muted, it's usually not because of misunderstood RP.

/ignore is the whole client. Trust me :x
Really? /ignore ignores the player's account? I'll try ignoring some people, then. Wow. What a great alt-checker!
Errr....
Okay. To clarify:
You, the player, ignore "The Prancing Ponies of the Serco". Go on any character of yours on that client and "The Prancing Ponies of the Serco" are ignored.
NOT the entire account of the player with the character "The Prancing Ponies of the Serco" is ignored. SO no, no built in alt checker.

Ooooh. I gotcha. YOUR client is where the /ignore list is stored - gotit.
I think we have three different ideas here, given arbitrary names to make them discernable:
/ignorechar "character name" -- ignores a character on a given account. This is per-character on your end, so another of your characters will hear the character provided to the command.
/ignore "character name" -- ignores a character on a given account on your entire account. None of the characters you use on this VO client will hear the given character.
/mute "character name" -- adds a vote to a given character's mute count, not the account.
Muting an entire account would be for Devs and Guides only, or would occur if a given account had two (different!) characters muted in a given time period, perhaps a week.

alias Rmute '/vote mute "Roda Slane"'
bind "R" Rmute

I like Miharu's idea.
