LAtely, i have been helping gold fight reds.> Just 1 problem. Every now and then, a nuke will go off just a little too close to me, and the people i was helping end up accidently killing me. So i had an idea. What if you could turn FF off between just 2 people? So if i wanted to help a select group of golds, they couldn't kill my by mistake, and i couldn't do the same to them. Here is what i came up with.

/ally name -- Adds that person to your ally list. you cant shoot him, but he can shoot you.*

/ally -- lists the people who you're allied to and who is allied to you

/unally -- ends an alience on your side

* -- this makes it so you cant ally with a pirate while he's trying to kill you. So if you want to ally with someone and he doesn't want to ally, i you cant force him into it. But if me and asp want to ally, we type:

me-- /ally Asp
asp -- /ally "Sam II"

now, what is the correct spelling of "ally" so i can go fix it?

I think that is a great idea!!!!

Awsome! Like when Phoenix and janelle were helping us cap gold. It would suck if I were to accidentally launch a swarm up thier asses.

those accidents are part of the game.

Already been suggested by me earlier. Wish this forum had a search function.

=b

Although... I also suggested that there also be a ten second timer after the breaking of (for lack of a better term) an alliance has been announced, to prevent exploiters from tricking people into alliance and then attacking them the instant they switch back to being hostile.

This is a good idea, i like it.

And arolte, if this forum had a search button, i'd have to say:
Don't turn this into the ambrosia forum, "USE THE FRIGGIN SEARCH BUTTON"
On every post =P

I think that last one might have been intentional...

ack, what a horrible and hideously unrealistic idea...

c'mon ppls, splash damage is part of the game. I know that vd is more arcadey than rpg like at the moment. But that IS going to change.

If you take out an allied teammate with a nuke, that makes you pretty stupid.

If you are the allied teammate flying into the nuke, that makes you pretty dumb too..

The solution here is coordination between teammates/allies (chat more) perhaps bind a key to automagically write "Nuke Away!" in the teamchat. Soldiers actually shout "Fire in the hole!" for a reason when lobbing grenades you know.

just my 2cents

The situation here was Arolte and Sam II in sector 11 vs a bunch of Serco.

The problem is that Arolte was station-nuking exploiting, and Sam II was too close to the station.

My response: yeah it sucks @$$, but learn to fight, not station camp. Remember the nukes are for capital frigates (ie frigates) or defense bots. If you want to exploit or misuse a weapon, that's your choice. But you and your allies may/will take the consequences.

Were the Reds they were after fighting fair? Sector 11 suggests to me that Gold Killer was involved and that he'd laid l-mines in the ring station's docking bays.

BTW, about Orbri/Gold Killer. If I recall he used to attack Red and Blue ships on sight -- no matter what. That combined with his continually inappropriate chat messages resulted in even his own team disliking him. That's why he hates Gold so much. Maybe I'm preaching to the choir, here, SirCamps.. you even started a thread criticizing him. I made the mistake of thinking you and the "Serco Fighters" fully supported him because some of you attacked me while I was engaged with Gold Killer.

Station nuking is my temporary solution to unbalanced ships, swarm tactics, and station camping. When things balance out more in the future, I'll be more than happy to engage in fair combat. Until then, n00000000kul4444r!!!

Asphyxia, there is FF protection in the game you can't damadge your team mates. It is reasonable to either make a /allies function or make it so you can hurt everyone (this shouldn't be done until there is some way to tell that someone has been team killing a lot).

also a vote feature would be nice

/vote "deminer 32"

(4 more votes)

hey ff is off on this person, or something like that, or station defenses start killing deminers or the same color. Mines have feelings too!

Eldrad,

I suppose im just not an alliance person (well, i am, but not in this whole "cant hurt you" way), i'd actually prefer it if FF was off really (more realistic) though I do think it could cause some in team issues thats true.

It's an interesting one, I do agree with the whole ally thing in some way. Gee, more than once have I targeted and blown away an allied player (say during an allied cap) by accident when getting too 'x' happy.

But i think that if there is a large explosion going off in space, splash damage is a very real threat. It would be really stupid to turn it off, especially on a player by player basis.

Im not making arguments for a mad killing rampage here though!

Asphyxia,

I agree with you. I'd like to see FF go away, but before that happened there would need to be some way of telling if someone is a team killer, like color changing, or a more advanced bounty system where each of the nations offered different bounties for a person. (I think I'm going to start a thread on bounties).

yeah, like some characters in rpg's have a... what is it... purity? rating...

cant think of the term but basically how good/evil you are..

would be a kind of three way thing... kill your own teams players and your rating moves over towards the "Sadistic" corner... kill other teams players and your rating moves over to the "rule-following but agressive" corner. spend most of your life running cargo, and not killing player chars and your rating moves further to the "friendly" corner.

that way, you'd kind of get an incling about who you are just about to go into battle with or what sectors to avoid (e.g. s4 when there are 3 "sadistic"-itani players in there and you're itani yourself)

It would also bring a new aspect to the game where team-killers are hunted down and generally treaded badly.

I agree that removing FF is a good idea, then we can police our own personal "teamside" n00b killers & pirates. The team dot's should still be green (in the scopes) and the "G" key is bound to seek foreground target. As the game progresses we could also have an actual "Police Squad" per team. These are the guys that settle internal grievances. The purity rating is also a great idea! As this will help n00bs stick the game out for a bit rather than getting anihhilated every 5 min's while exploring (yes this happened to me).

Sure you get to grips with what you do & do not do over time, but to get shot down constantly is going to make a fair few players leave.

Also a ranking system might be a good idea. This rank would be tied to your account and not the player. This means that if you have several characters the rating is bound to them. If you switch sides and you score is 0 you still have the ranking. Just a basic idea. Ranks could go something like newbie -> trader -> all rounder -> combatant -> Homicidal Maniac. The pk's bk's could add to this, set a bot kill at something like 1 point and the player kills at 5 points. This way the harcore cappers ranking will go up way before the bot killing squads do.

Just a couple of suggestions & additions ;)
