Pertaining to Weapon and Addons
First off, the Mining laser.
As something designed with a high heat exchange ratio, and being commonly used to melt, drill out, and collect materials used to manufacture spacecraft, I believe Mining beams should do damage to other ships. Lots of Damage. Considering that these can only be used within 100 meters of the target, it'd be balanced, and worth it. Not to mention the mining lance jousts we could have.
Second, given the recent addition of shields. (HOLY CRAP I THOUGHT THE DEVS WERE LIKE NO SHIELD EVA!!!) I believe I small and large addon should be made, adding shields to fighter craft. Cuz that would be cool. And useful for traders.
Ok, and last thing. Which is totally off topic.
WE WANT SOME FRIGGIN MEDIUM SHIPS.
While I understand that the developers like to add content and bug test everything before we can use capital ships, adding MEDIUM vessels is a way to grant us access to a larger ship, with a higher weapons and cargo capacity, while still being manageable for pilots without special interfaces. In fact, I believe Medium ships should be slightly more maneuverable than a moth, consider the fact that they have more powerful engines and power supplies to work with.

A tactical beam wepon either mining beam or other would be neat...
High damage
line of sight aiming
very short range
it would be fun for botting :)

geez. just having moth heavy would be nice. we could man 3 in there and have a lot of fun.
imagine it being an assault support ship. equip it with repair rungs and a couple of defense weapons, say agt, and float near a heavy assault by light craft.
not quite the cappy for guilds we want, but it would just, make, sense.

Try boarding a Heavy Assault Cruiser sometime, and get in one of those turrets. I think you'll like them.

The beam turrets have been replaced. At least, I think so. Inc said they were sorta like Gauss cannons now.
The beams haven't been in use for a long time, since there was no effective counter to them besides long range rocket or missile strikes. The near-instant kill potential (especially if you get caught by several beams at once) was a bit annoying too. Combat against capships boiled down to long-range missile and rocket bombardment, with no option for the crew on the ship other than getting out and hunting the bombers themselves.
The Heavy Gauss turrets (and the various other types as seen on Teradons) offer more interesting game play for both gunners and attackers, I think. They don't create a "bubble of death" around the ship in quite the same way as the beams did, which allows a crafty pilot to sneak up close to the ship. They can also shoot down incoming missiles and rockets, which forces bomber pilots to be a bit smarter.

beams were good for stationary targets but sucked hard on lime against small fighter.
as you fired them, you couldn't move the beam. so, i'm glad they're gone.
but it would be nice to have a short-range l-mounted beam. as good as rails when chasing someone.

/me imagines a frigate like the multi-beam in Homeworld Cataclysm...
now wouldn't it be fun to see that go against a group of 20 fighters? :D

That's exactly what we used to have, Zed. :D
