Screensaver
How about stripping down the engine some and releasing the station-randomizer-spinny-thing behind the login-screen as a screensaver?
Stuff the VO logo in there, and the Guild logo, just like the logon screen, and have it generate a new station every X minutes?

hmm ...wouldn't that be like the first step towards a single player client?
...why?
It's just the client with less textures and no login dialog where the login dialog ought to be?
I have a feeling it wouldn't be very big either, as it wouldn't need any widget information/icons, any ship meshes or anything like that, just enough to render a skybox and a station, then spin the camera around the axis of that station.
There would be no ships, no flying, no docking, no station menu, no chat, no nothing, just a spinning station.
If that's a step towards a single player version of the game, then I'm there already, because I regularly just leave VO at the login prompt to get the pretty station spinning.

ok maybe not then
That's quite a waste of cpu time though. you could help cure cancer or find aliens instead.

But if that is what you intend to do then running it as a screen saver is not a good idea, as it uses up half of the cpu time redrawing the thing, which is still a waste of CPU. I find such things are best run niced in the background all the time. If you have more than one core the impact to performance is not very noticeable.
