Ok, my suggestion quite more simple, but more usefull and simple to implement.

On Ship / Manage or Buy, there are 4 slots, where you can save or buy previous model.

Making THIS 4 slots named. Pplz can use any string they want, like:

1) Cent-Miner ...... 2) Cent-fighter
3) Vult 2 HX ........ 4) Vult Gauss+missiles

On this idea, if we could name at least the ship presets game already offer, that would start good, and more functional.

When your LeviKiller is destroyed, you buy another LevyKiller, not a Ragnarok mk.III ... When you create another setup for your Vulture, instead of preset I , you overwrite "vult hx purple" with "pink vult gauss" ...

Also, this can be stored client-side...

The original suggestion discussed in this thread is a good idea. Names for ships (preferably ones visible to anyone who targets the ship) would be a nice feature that would add some depth to the game.

It might be a good idea for stations to charge a small "christening fee" for named ships. It shouldn't be expensive (10k or so, or maybe 10% of the cost of the hull), but just enough to make named ships somewhat 'special'.

Alloh, resurrecting these threads is not the best idea. Experiment with the game more before you suggest something or bring back an old thread.

On topic: I feel only cappies should be named, as you are bound to lose them less than fighter stuff (unless it's a trident).

Yeah, I would like ship names, too. Always said so, back when I first witnessed it being suggested (although I can't remember when that was anymore).

If you do an effort and try reading again, you will notice what I proposed is possible, simple and usefull. Put name on PRESETS for buying ship.

More easy to implement than name each and every ship, and can be considered a step towards it.

If I'm the only one who is amused by the fact that these posts seem to pop up wherever I go on these forums (usually by the select few members of my personal fan club - Restayvien, Atice, Shlim, Sraer, etc), then I severely overestimated the average level of intellectual ability of my fellow VO-ians.
