In my oppinion one of the best points of this game is that its skill based. When i logged on after not playing in a while and saw a enigine icon i cringed.
Erm what is the suggestion? Also the engine icon is just that at the mo.
The suggestion is implied. I think the game works well with out the opption to swap engines. Every one has access to pretty much the same equip. making it a game of skill and not a time sink for obtaining equipment. For me the game works,I like spending time learning over waiting for a loot drop. I know of the fix to stop the engine thing. When i saw the icon it threw me a bit.
The UC batt is a cool reward,but a special engine might be a little much and once i saw the icon i thought to myself it will prob just be a matter of time till theres a mission or a drop for a reward engine.

I think the engines icon is a left over from the alpha and beta days, but I wouldn't know because I wasn't there at the beginning of this great game.

Yeah, the engine thing's fixed, so it's a moot point, now.
As for skills, there are several skills that should have place in a game like this: tactics, planning, strategy, resource management, and the piloting/combat skills I think you're talking about. You have limited resources, you need to spend your money well on ships and equipment that will serve your style of play. If there are many options for ships, weapons and other equipment, you must plan what you are doing with these and buy the proper items, and plan your strategy as well if you have a mission or goal. Different ships and weapons lend themselves to different tactics, and knowing what you're working with helps your tactics. Then of course you have to actually fly and fight with your ship. All these are skills, so just because there are options for equipment and some are better than others, doesn't remove the skill aspect from the game. It enhances it, in fact.

The engine thing is also moot because the new UI that is being worked on shows neither your engine nor your equipped powercell. Engines are a thing of the past, it seems.
