Ok. I dislike how it's set up now. YOu want a special ship? Go to 15 and get you one. Boring. Easy to do. Dumb.

But, i came up with an idea.

Every time you kill a special ship, a random widgit of some type falls out. But it's a special widgit that gets it's own box, so it wont be confused with regular cargo. What is so special about this cargo? The cargo is a part of the special. Collect all teh parts, you can take them all to your home nation where they will be put togeather (for a small fee) giving you a brand new special ship!

Of course, you can replace some of the state of the art parts with cybernetics and gun fittings and stuff from bots, but the ship wont be as good.

So if i wanted to have a prom, i'd have to go out and frag proms. Kill me a few dozen or so to collect all the parts. If i'm missing a few gun fittings, i'd go waste some bots and grab some, but i might end up without a gun port or 2 because i was using crappy bot parts.

A bit too long-winded... maybe all you would need would be a black box of sorts from the vessel you destroy. This would give your home stations the knowledge to build exactly one of the ship you destroyed :)

How's about requiring special parts to build special ships and some parts only being available in certain systems?

I like the "black box" idea. It is not too much different from the "magic item" system used in many fantasy RPG's, where you find some special item after defeating a strong enemy, but need to bring it back to have it identified or unlocked before you can really use it.

This would encourage going after stronger targets, making it more rewarding and more fun. It would also allow a way to introduce some cool annd more poweful items without disturbing balance (too much)

Mmmm, frigate black box! <eg>

That should be how we get frigates! We haul very large peices of frigate to our home sector and have it assembled, if we have to section 24's we could trade one for a 20 from another nation! Then once we have all the peices, within 1 hour it will be all super glued back together!

Well, as it is floating in many peices in your home sector, it needs to be slapped bck together!

Wha? Superglue? No... Duct tape... :P

But super glue is flameable!! It is mostly alcohol, thats why it drys so fast =)

but then it's dry, meaning the alcohol has evaporated... so it's not flamable anymore!

So i'll go with the duct tape.

duct tape and pastic over the windows... you know, to protect from those terroist alien attacks.
