I would really like to see the storyline intertwined with what is occurring in game. Maybe you could have the ability to accept a mission on finding hidden locations/ships/station that were used in the past. Maybe a det of missions then send you all across the galaxy uncovering the hidden truths of the universe. I really think we need something besides combat besides trading/mining/racing but something else like this.

Yeah, we're trying to do that. It's taking us forever, but really, that's been the plan since the beginning. There's been a lot of logistical and development issues with missions, which we finally seem to be getting a handle on.

I haven't had the chance to email Momerath, but I'm working on an independent project along those lines as well. Whether the Devs want to encorporate that into the game is their call, but I think it's going to have a pretty significant impact if they do.
