Auto-Pilot (NOT A REPEAT)

Yeah what Pigeon says. Also if you get to the point that your ship flyes on it's own, I don't see the point of trade anymore.

I love the idea of an autopilot.

I also love the idea for having some clickables in the navmap area for loading and saving navroutes. In addition, a "Route reverse" button would be nice. So, say I click through a 9 system procure route that avoids all the storms. Right now I have to click the whole route again in reverse to go back. It'd be neat to set one way, then click a button and have the whole thing trace back the route to the start.

Pidgeon, how did they do that? Was there some kind of scripting language in the client to program such bots?

Having an autopilot doesn`t have to mean that players would again be enabled to make unwanted bots.

Zed, what is the point of trade anyway? You make money and get exp towards your trade license, with dumb flying back and forth between stations (in the same system). Every now and then a pirate shows up and kills you while your docking or undocking from a station. It`s plain boring, to say the least. I avoid it when I don`t have to do it for the money because of the pirates. A bot could do it as well, maybe even better. It might be more interesting to program a good trade bot than it is to trade myselfe ...

Erm, then why play the game, Leeyun? I mean, isn't the point of playing that intangible "brush with death by pirate?" Letting some program that you wrote do the trading for you is... stupid.

In fact, If it (automated trading through scripts and hacking) ever becomes possible, I think there should be a guild that hunts down bot traders and AFK miners.

Imagine this: Leeyun creates a great bot script that transports a mothload of luxgoods to Odia from, Oh idunno, Azek. Some enterprising guild (*cough* CLM *cough*) finds out, and camps Latos H-2, popping him every time his script makes the warp from Azek into Latos. Two shooters and one cargo runner in a Moth. They pop him over and over and over and over again, having some good chuckles as they do so.

Leeyun logs in to find that he is broke, and wonders what happened, while [CLM] posts a hysterical transcript log of the events in the forums.

I think that scenario is FAR more likely than the "Leeyun logs in to find out that he's a bazillionaire, what a great idea, bot trader" scenario.

But, that's just me.

Well, if you find a moderately decent trade route in protected space, and set your script to run while you're sleeping, you could conceivably make a considerable amount of money off of a trade route that no one uses. Mainly because there wouldn't likely be pirates roaming the heart of nation space, and because your bot would be trading for 8 hours without taking a break.

Although with the way that the economy works, you'd most likely stockpile goods until you get back, and then sell them all off for "MASSIVE PROFIT" but whatever. The outcome is the same. Reaping cash while not actually doing work.

Oh, yah I know Crip, but when we have lots more players online, I can envision a guild doing daily sweeps to cut down on this kind of behavior. Would be rather profitable, and easy.

I know I'd have a substantial amount of fun taking care of the "AutoTraders" and "AutoMiners".

That would be no different from flying the ship myselfe, except that I might be challenged to make the bot more intelligent.

Make it a feature and let each player have a number of ships (let`s say max. 100 for now), controlled by bots programmed by players, and I might return to playing.

The only problem with the AutoPilot Function is that it would make people lazy, they may be going to get a cup of coffe, fine, that's ok, but what I'm saying is that it would make trade very dull.

First off, I think a decent amount of people would find it makes trading a great deal more exciting. You could, for example, set your route, and go watch youtube. While some people will still prefer flying by hand, I for one find it altogether more interesting and challenging to fly by mind, so to speak. And what better game to offer this than a Sci Fi mmo. So long as it's within the sandbox, I can't see anything immoral about it.

Secondly, who put you in charge of moral standards for vendetta online players anyways? If I want to be lazy, it's my unalienable right. Why is that a problem for anyone besides yourself? Laziness and boredom can be the impetus for innovation, as I plan to show the world with my auto-pilot script. And guess what! This game is a method of entertainment for bored people who are too lazy to go fly real space ships.

I was actually thinking about this earlier today, when my Revenant needed to make 6 jumps in 10 minutes, and my bladder was rather full.

I agree that autopilot would be great, a pilot can set a course, or utilize the pre-set mission course, and then activate the autopilot, freeing the pilot to "walk around the ship" so to speak.
This semi-autonomy already exists with the mining beams (since they will harvest constantly with only one trigger pull), until the hold is full.

The Itan -> Pherona wormhole (Itan P-6) is the designated 'bathroom break' sector...

I've had a breakthrough in "technology", so to speak. Expect a Deneb Run demonstration soon.

Only problem with the designated bathroom break jump...y'alls drones seem to dislike the red painted on my hull, and the seal of the Serco Dominion.

Im with a1 on this, we should get incarnate and a1 to debate this in a meeting...perhaps in game...at high noon...with flares.
That way we can all have a chance to talk.

Get him to reveal his formula for acceleration and turning speeds, while you're at it.

Seriously though, I'm making an autopilot that while not accurate enough to say, fly to a specific coordinate in space can atleast hit a 1000m radius sphere. With the Dev's workload actually running this game, and my being on Christmas break, I'll probably get done sooner than bugging them would.
