Mid-sized turrets
So right now we have the cool, glowing "blister" turrets which have been known to fire super-AGT, particle beams, and mega gauss... and the massive centerline guns on the Teradon which fire salvos of orange fireballs of capship smiting.
I'd like to see a class of turrets that falls somewhere in between these two... mid-sized turrets which visibly rotate at a fixed tracking speed, and employ medium-long range ship-to-ship weaponry.
This would enable the devs to qualitatively differentiate between ships like the Heavy Assault Cruiser and the Trident Light Frigate. Right now, the only real difference between these ships is size, armor, and number of turrets.
I would like to see the HAC mount weapons that the TLF cannot. Weapons of a longer range that forced the TLF to use its superior maneuverability to either get in close or bug out.
The ratio of rotating turrets to blister turrets could also tailor a cap ship toward a specific role. Say there are two variants of a destroyer, one with 6 rotating turrets, 6 blister turrets, and one with 2 rotating turrets, 12 blister turrets. The variant with more blister turrets would probably have a tighter anti-fighter defense, whereas the variant with more rotating turrets would be better suited to engage other cap ships.
It's the same reason for differentiating between small and large ports on single-man vessels.

Seconded. However, I believe it's been stated in the past that rotating turrets weren't exactly the most resource-friendly bits. Beyond that though, this could help capital-class vessels become more easily retrofitted to suit various roles(A mining craft would rather go with blister turrets, while a frontline anti-capital destroyer would prefer to have rotating ones).
Perhaps we could make variant turrets without doing the rotating bit? It would look REALLY cool though and I hope we get massive rotating turrets at some point (*thinks of the new Battlestar Galactica*).
Homeworld 1 did rotating turrets without any problems. I don't see how it's possible for us to have rotating, moving ships, and solid parented objects (rets), but not rotating, non-moving parented objects.
