Hello everyone, nooob here old wow player in search of something to quell my need for a virtual experience (too deep!").Anyways, remember frontier, frontier 2.From an uneducated position why has no other game really taken on the whole see the planet and fly down onto the planet scenario? Not meaning to be cheeky but that game was like many years old but still no-one has been able to emulate the same feeling. Please dont take this question as a diss on this amazing game but just rather a curious gamers question............Bam
It's a good and fair question.
One of the aims of a successful online game is to run smoothly on a wide range of computers and connections. The computing power involved in doing what you describe - doing it well, anyway - is considerable. The planet would need to grow larger and more detailed as the viewer approaches it. There's also the need to create another flight model to deal with atmospheric flight - more work. It might be included here, one day (not soon or even "Soon").
Ignoring online games for a moment, I think that many designers, publishers, and players see the act of landing as more of a cut-scene between action scenarios. People are inpatient.

Not to mention that our ships would probably burn up if they entered atmospheres. And don't talk to me about supermaterials, there's limits to things ;)
Never seen either game, but EnB had you capable of flying around and landing on planets. Biggest problem is the sheer size of one; either you limit players to a specific location (like EnB did) or you have quite the amount of work in your hands.
