being shot at in war space for no reason.
before anyone gets the idea that it's all my fault for flying in there and getting a stray shot in the rear... that's not what this is all about.
i am UIT(+998), i have great standing with both the Serco(+999), and the Itani(+860). while working on my itani standing i have come across a trade run that asks me to go to serco space for the goods... (firstly, odd for a waring faction to specifically specify the enemy's location) now while i am flying through the Deneb WH, i am shot at. not once, not even 5 times... AN NPC IS TARGETING ME! what's worse is the it's an Itani warthog, the same nation i am currently on a mission FOR!
what's the deal with this?
if the standings for serco/itani were on a karma scale i could understand this (it's flying from red space shoot it). or if it was serco ships, (he's working for the enemy, kill him).
but this is not set up this way. may i suggest actually changing the standings for serco/itani (only) to a karma scale...
E.G.
itani - neutral / serco - auto-neutral
itani - hate / serco - auto-admire
itani - KOS / serco - auto-POS
(**vise versa standings can apply)
plus, you would have to build up stature to buy nation specific ships. admired in itan? NO PROM FOR YOU! (even if you could have bought one yesterday)
[ ##after thought## neutrality with both nations = no nation-specific ship availability]
all the other standings can stay the same, but for the waring nations/factions i would say it's a necessity.
(P.S. as for itani/serco players, they had the choice of which nation to be true to right from the start... so they need no special attention in this thread.)

While I've never seen a trade run like you specified, this has been brought up before a few times. And its a good idea to be sure.
The only problem I really see if with your "karma scale" is with the auto-standing. For instance, I go into Serco space and wipe out a marshal. KOS Serco, POS Itani. Now I go into itani space and wipe out an Itani Marshall. KOS Itani, but I don't really think the Serco would all of a sudden forget that I had wiped out there Marshall just recently, and elevate my standing to POS.
I do agree that standing changes with one faction should be reflected in the other in a converse fashion, but I think there should be some sort of weight attached to a low faction, ensuring that if you tank one, it will still be difficult to redeem quickly.

yeah it should definately be easier to loose faction than gain it. chances are oposed standings will end up having to sum to no more tghan a fixed number (say 800), that way if you want +800 itani you need 0 or lower Serco, or if you want +900 Serco you need -100 or lower Itani. (numbers made up for example perpuses)
Things like this have been suggested a gazillion times.
Faction system, as it is now, is totally silly.
Players from 2 warring factions (serco/itani) cannot have admire with both factions!
UIT players cannot have admire status with both warring factions (serco/itani)!
If they trade with serco, fine they have admire serco and dislike or hate itani, or vice versa.
Its as simple as this.
Devs promised a faction system overhaul a long time ago..........

Players can indeed have good standing with two warring factions. The uit faction itself has good standing with both warring factions. That being said, itani and serco both understand that all UIT are evil, and any UIT that has not choosen one side over the other should most certianly be shot at (we will let the other ones live (for now)). When another idian trader...er... UIT traitor...er...UIT trader shows up in a war zone, niether side sould shoot at him, unles he has cargo... or guns... or a battery... aww hell... shoot the evil devil!
UITs are evil!
*sigh* Yeah, this has been suggested more times than I can count. Please, read the thread that says "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING", or at least run a search.
And as I've said in all of those threads:
Here's the problem with it: Neutral third parties SHOULD be able to be admired by both warring factions, given that they're not involved in the war.
Best solution is to have every faction gain or loss accompanied by a lesser opposing faction gain or loss for the opposing faction. I.E., you gain 100 Serco standing, you automatically lose 25 Itani standing. If you lose 1000 Serco standing, you gain 250 Itani. This would provide a heavily weighted climb to the top for traders who want to have admired or PoS faction in both nations, but would still make it possible.

Yep, the devs know the faction system is broken.
IMHO, I think it would be best to make factions exclusive only if you are a part of that nation. So if you're Itani/Serco, an increase in one results in a decrease in the other. But if you're UIT, you can gain both without consequence. Same would go for corvus/uit though. If you're UIT, gaining corvus faction would result in a drop in your UIT standing, but other nations could gain both factions as normal.

welcome to war, kiddos.
friendly fire kills a good percentage of those that die in combat.
if you dont like it, maybe you shouldnt have cheered so much for militaristic leaders.

UIT neutrality is embraced anywhere but the Warzone. A big part of War is disrupting supply lines to the enemy, and who are the suppliers here? Traders.
