Things I'd like to seen added (Finster)
Hi all,
First (of many?) posting here. :) I've been playing this here game for a bit and I'd like to add my suggestions to the list. I'm sure many of these ideas have been suggested before I haven't looked that hard through the suggestions. So If they have been suggested before, then just add my 2nd to that idea. Also there may be ways of doing some of the things I want, but I am just not aware of them, so bare with me...
Ok here goes:
Interface stuff

I would like to be able to drag-drop addons/weapons instead of selecting and using equip/unequip buttons.
I would like to be able to double-click on a system and have it open the sector map.
Sometimes when making a long journey I get "lost" as to where I am or what system/sector is next. I'm sure some of you have the "known universe" memorized, but I sure don't. So, I would like to see either a smaller version of the "know universe" (system map) in the corner of sector map or see a total list of upcoming jumps in the text-box on the right. Like:
jumping to Deneb O-7
next jump Eo ...
next jump ...
next jump ...
destination station Itan K-11
I would like a quick one click "plot-return-course" button.
General stuff

I think a missile/rocket camera would be awesome to watch sometimes.
Be able to group with the NPCs you are escorting on an escort mission.
It would be cool to be able to hire NPC fighters to escort YOU for a price based on their skill/ship/weapons/distance of your journey.
For duels/races? I think "watcher" bots would be cool. One would "follow" the participants and broadcast updates on a certain channel. Its first broadcast would be on channel 100 telling everyone what channel to tune into.
Something like:
Nefarious Serco Bob dueling with Itani POS Fred
Fred launches two Gemini missiles towards Bob
Bob responds with blasts from his AGT
Bob's hull is weakened with blasts from Fred's Positrons
Fred's ship takes the full force of Bob's rail gun round
etc, etc...
I think it would interesting if there was a way to "power down" your ship. Your radar, heads up display, etc. would be off and you'd show up as "scrap?" to others. The only thing you'd be allowed to do is chat. Be an interesting way to hide from bots or other players. Players and bots would have to find you visually. Also, some pirates might be able to employ this tactic to their advantage?

I had difficulty flying at first with flight assist off. I think a flight school mission (tutorial) expressly for teaching some of these skills would be very helpful. Have the pilots fly through markers (larger version of the jump point markers?) or through cool looking force-field tunnels. To complete the mission they must strafe in the various directions and even fly backwards? Also use the brake key?
Think like how some current flight Sim games have you fly through boxes, just instead make the boxes look cooler (glowy plasma with little bots at the corners or something) and have them disjointed so you have to use the a,d,r,f,q,e,space keys, etc.

We have gotten intelligence that Serco/Itani/? forces are planning a large scale invasion. We need every able bodied citizen to be prepared.
Having suffered losses in the pass we are short on trained gunnery personal. Your mission is to rendezvous in %some sector% with %name some cap ship here% and man a gun battery. (Ship flies some mission through bot territory or perhaps special targets placed in the sector? I think it should give combat?, heavy weapons xp)
(Feel free to reword/rework these missions/ideas. Just trying to give a flavor of how I envision them) Comments?

I like the idea of a mini-universe map (kind of like the display on Google Maps, if you've ever used that). I'm not sure about the text box thing. Perhaps you could elaborate on that?

It might be fun, but then the engine would have to support rendering two separate scenes at the same time (probable slowdown, plus coding time to implement), and while it'd be fun, this feature wouldn't be all that useful.

From what I've heard, they're working on this right now, along with redoing the whole way that grouping works. Right now, you actually -are- grouped with the NPCs, but you just can't see it because it's a behind-the-scenes kind of grouping. Soon™, that will be user-visible.

This will kinda happen when momerath opens up the "Convoy" mission, which lets you join the convoy in an Escort mission.

Been suggested a million times. Whenever the devs get around to implementing radar occlusion (and hopefully visual light occlusion...), it might happen.
I'll leave your mission ideas for somebody else to comment on.
