Stargates!!!
I personaly find the wormhole animation to be, very pathetic compared to all the other Space games i have played. And the loading screen wears off on you very fast.
I think it would be cool to have stargates, with a opening sequince, and nice effects. The opening sequince would take a couple seconds, solving a problem that several people brought up, that it was too easy for people to escape using the wormholes.
The loading screen, is very annoying. It's simple plain, and there is nothing to it. What would be cool is to have a seperate loading screen for each sector. That would add a lot more variaty. Or, as some have done, use a animation that plays while the next system loads. i.e. your ship warping through space.

Most of your ideas relate to content provided by artists. Don't assume that the art you are seeing is in any way final. It's probably just place holders being used until they get a publisher.
Beyond that, frankly animations annoy me.

Mechanical wormholes/stargates are definitely cooler in my opinion. Especially with the purrrrrty water ripple effect . Unfortunately that's not what the devs decided on (at least the majority of them).
Example of a cool ass wormhole from a free space combat game called Parsec:

The only reason I wanted stargates is they tied into my fuel idea. I actually don't like them, and think that they usually look pretty cheesy. The only reason I can see for them is if fuel is implemented (and it looks like I'm the only person that thinks fuel would be cool), stargates could be placed in the 'n00b sectors' to allow travel without fuel.
you can change the load screen with ????. It shouldn't take to long to find out how to do it. Just look me up I'm often on StarFreeze's forum, check my profile over there for details.
Mechanical stargates: already discussed.
Someone found a screenshot of one of Waylon's old models and mentioned using it in-game...and the devs said that the concept of a mechanical stargate caused too much of a traffic jam potential, not to mention that it didn't go with the storyline as they had planned.

The mechanical stargates could be built in the center of the nations sectors. If all the wormholes were unstable, it would make sense that the main sectors would always have guarenteed access. To go between nations or to uncharted sectors would require enough luck the hit the wormhole at the right time.

Thats looks kool, but whats with all the boxy thingies?
On second thought I have an Idea kinda like this too so here it is:
What if you can place a gizmo, dropped kinda like a mine, that lets you warp between the spot of this gizmo to another one just like it?
like you drop one of these in sec 1 and the second in sec 7 and when you go near the one in sec 7 you can warp directly to sec 1
these could be shot down like mines, and you can pick them up like cargo!
