My brain seized at the irony of this. Oh the humanity!

Ayn, Jex and Genka... Like the three stooges, only worse.
Well now that Ayn went and deleted all his posts this thread doesn't make much sense and that was pretty childish of him.. But anyway..
That used to be one of the primary game design rules of the first MMORPGs, as well as the MUDs before them: something that ANYONE in the game can use (even if takes time and investment to get it), need not be balanced.
I would have to disagree with this.. Design that puts in things that are better than everything else, simply because it is available to everyone is poor.. Since basically you kill any variety and anyone who wants to perform will all get this one same thing..
This can possibly work in a situation where the item is limited in stock or time limited.. Where keeping the item means you have to continue to fight for it.. Similar to the Neut MkIII..
I'v not seen anything to suggest that the Valkyrie is such an item though. It is not much smaller than a Ragnraok, so provides a pretty big target and its armour is only slightly better than other fighters really.. Its spin and thrust is comparable to other fighters and its only real advantage over the MkIIIs and IVs is 5 less boost cost.. If the boost cost was the same, would you really think 3x the cost of a comparable fighter was worth 1 extra light weapon?

Certainly not if you like using energy, netherby. I vote for B if you really can't handle it, but I find it all terribly amusing.
Perhaps we can just all use gov-buses and free batteries and gov-cannons -- and of course, we'll have to all agree to use NPC tactics and timing only -- then it will all be fair; actually, let's let the ships fly themselves to ensure complete balance. Oh wait, that's EVE...

I've tried B, but it can be very frusterating!
And here's another idea! Whenever Ayn makes a post, whoever sees it first copies it and replies with it so Ayn can't delete them like a little baby!

I don't see where Ayn's opinion of the Valkyrie is any less appropriate than anyone else who has posted to the various "nerf this or that" threads that fill this forum.
And what's with the "let's-vote-to-ostracize-Player-X-until-they-leave-VO" crap? Some of you folks have been watching too much "Survivor", and just aren't happy unless you're in the middle of a witch-hunt.

True, Will. But since witch-hunting has never been subject to moderation on this forum, you cannot totally blame them for that.
We certainly CAN blame them for their own behavior. Must we always have external controls to regulate our behavior?
Back to the topic: I don't mind valks as they are. They're not terribly hard to hit (except by me - my aim is horrible these days) and I don't find them to be excessively lethal in a face-to-face battle. I think that the main issue is that they are hard to run away from. I usually stay and take my lumps, so I haven't been concerned about their "interceptor" capabilities. I might feel differently if death had more serious consequences.

Aye whistler, I think the valk is fine. Currently it has one glaring advantage and one glaring disadvantage.
Advantage: Turbo (Battlefield Mobility)
Disadvantage: Shape (It looks like a giant potato which makes it very easy to hit. Attracts gauss, agt and flares like a moth to light.)
Ayn wants it nerfed because he has difficulty running from it.

Ya, I'm with Whistler. I use a Valk, I die; a Valk (or pretty much anything else) is used against me, I die. The ships behave differently, some are perfect for certain tactics, but mostly it's the pilot who decides the outcome. Specially when type-killin'.
So, don't nerf the Valks; rather, nerf Ayn's whineability.

... for a second there (before I read the stuff in parentheses) I thought you were talking about Shape the player...
Actually, the Valk attracts gauss, AGT and flares like a pirate to a moth >.>;

Hey, that works too!

The valk has been so bad, for so long, I'm somewhat glad that its merits are back to a point of debatability.
I still say it should have a slimmer profile =P
If my memory is not failing me, I think Andy or Inc promised a long time ago they will actually do something about valk profile and make it slimmer.:P
I would still rather a Prom than a Valk..
The maneuverability of the Prom is crazy when you compare how much armour it has!

Actually, this since the Rune was changed from 8CU Infiniboost to 2CU Batt Sucker.
That was the best ship to do CtC with. Not particularly fast and agile as Cents but the thing had a chance to get out of the scene with it's cargo.
I haven't seen much Valks since their nerfing. The old first-class fighter became third grade, next to Cent and Vult (did I mention I hate the vult?).
