Teradons
Now that we've all seen them, do you think they should be included in convoys? IMO the teradon is a warship and therefor should only be used in situations like the border skirmish in deneb or other war scenarios. It seems strange to me that a heavily armed warship would be sent to escort a small convoy, or at least in the quantity that they currently do. That's what tridents are for, armored transport. Maybe teradons could only be sent to escort convoys of high importance.
Anyhow, discuss.

Long distance runs or runs to capital stations or from Barracks for example?
They probably don't belong in every convoy, but they should definitely be included on storm-heavy routes, and routes that pass through major wormholes in Grey Space. Not much besides a Teradon or a few players can fend off a large horde of the pirate bots now. Tridents don't have enough turret coverage to handle groups above a certain size, especially if they come at it from certain directions.
Since the Teradon doesn't appear to be positioned as a cargo carrier, it could be sent ahead of a convoy along with a few escort fighters to clear a safe path on dangerous routes.

so far, every convoy i have had with a teradon, he became bored and disappeared. i say useless. but the BP idea isnt bad
drdoak007, teradons "become bored" and leave only at the end once they've reached the destination sector b/c they do not dock with stations.
I agree that there should be fewer teradons and more tridents. Perhaps tridents need another couple turrets then, like a convoy escort variant? Also, they would fair a lot better if everything STUCK TOGETHER, with overlapping fields of fire...

Yea, tridents should be sufficient for the smaller convoys, and ones that don't pass through several grey WH sectors. From a realistic standpoint, it wouldn't be economic to deploy a teradon along with a convoy that has less than 6-8 heavy moths worth of cargo, so why does it happen?
Teradons should only accompany large convoys, and then only on routes with high danger (like through the Sedina/Odia WH). Smaller or less hazardous convoys should only need a Trident or two, if that.
Finally, as LC suggested, nothing is going to keep these convoys alive better than getting them to all stick together. The heavily armored ships should lead the pack, but wait up for them and the fighters bringing up the rear at each WH. Right now I see too many convoys consisting of nothing but a Teradon and fighters, because the cargo transports got ahead/fell behind and were erradicated.

I posted to another thread that I'll be doing variants of teradons and tridents and things soon. "Military" versus "Civilian" and so forth. Then we'll probably rework convoys a bit.
