Vendetta Online on the Nintendo Wii (or any other console)
Has it been considered porting VO to any of the majour consoles? Seeing how the Wii works this past week has made me consider it. Because of the controller's abilities this game would be a lot of fun!
1. Aiming would be easier with the Wii's controller.
2. The nunchaku attachment could be used for controlling the ships propulsion, much like WASD.
Now, I know it's a pipe-dream because the costs required to port the game may not be worth it. But, I'd really like to know if the developers have considered this at all?

The point being... ?
Developing for game console requires a substancial investment and brings lots of surcharge (royalties per copies plus special dev kit in the 10,000$ range plus one-time initial fees).
You typically can't develop squat on their platform unless you can put down a minimum of 100,000$ on the initial development hit.
And for what? Less resolution than you can on a PC wich doesn't cost much to develop for and has a wide variety of input devices.
Plus, you can develop a multi-platform game easilly on PCs while doing that for consoles is much harder.

plus most consoles controlers aren't suited to VO's interface.
Particularly the Wii, since it's the least like a PC and the most like an old-style console in terms of programming. The PS3 would probably be the easiest, since graphics is already taken care of via an OpenGL derivative, and VO has an OpenGL backend. Xbox360 wouldn't be that bad, since I think it's based off of some sort of DirectX-ish thing, but I'm not too sure of that. Computers are better/faster/cheaper/easier to develop for anyways.
yea but.....id rather see the earth explode into 10 million pieces than to see VO come out on any of the junk sony makes!
Keyboard & net connection can also be an issue.
Unless I'm mistaking, game consoles use a proprietary server connection to link other consoles and adds fee for the developer. It's aimed at p2p gaming rather than client/server gaming like VO.

The original Xbox would have been the easiest port. The Xbox360 would probably not be that hard. I approached Microsoft back in the day for our game to be an Xbox Live launch title, and was informed that "space games don't sell well on consoles". (?).
So anyway, for the moment, console development is out of the picture as it's A) too complicated B) too expensive C) requires retail publishing. Our business model is pretty much online-only now. If the Wii has a completely open SDK and user-downloadable content, it's not impossible (we do pay attention to developments in the console world), but not likely in the forseeable future.

incarnate: Thank you for taking the time to respond, I appreciate it.
I could see the game working well on a 360 (heck, I use a wired XB360 controller to play on my PC), but I have to admit the idea of using the Wii controller for vendetta is insanely cool :).
A pipe dream, maybe...but still... ;)
