Radar Relay Probes
More speculation and dreaming!? Yes...
Wouldn't it be interesting if you could drop a probe in a sector to allow anyone else in your nation to see who is in sector x? If the folks in sector x want to maintain privacy they can destroy the probe.
It may just be enough so that you could lay out some probes on your way to cap the flag. This could help you choose the safest path home.
perhaps it has been posted before - but this message board has a long history and no search feature.
these devices could be used for other things too.. Perhaps you can only exchange funds with a player in a sector that you are connected to (otherwise you can only exchange within the same sector). Also - perhaps these devices act as a network - and if one is down, that network path is cut.
the devices can also have a lag about them (assuming they cant communicate through the wormholes...) Hmm.. maybe this hole inter-wormhole/communication issue is too great.
maybe team members can't communicate with each other in a chat unless they are connected in this way also - making coordination more difficult.. i like that one...
And - (just to make things less desperate)...
If a communications relay device is destroyed, it should eventually respawn (or be repaired by some worker droid that comes from your home station). In this case, maybe players don't create the relays at all -- they are just always there (unless destoryed / until rebuilt).

Good idea. What could be safer than a big flashing beacon saying "flag coming this way!"
Hasn't this been discussed several times before?

Probes wou;d be cool becuase you can extort people with em :D
If you could lay probes and see who was present in the sector remotely they should only have a 3000m range like a normal radar.
Or they add the [s] tag to a person when they chat, this way they don't chat, they can't be found.
Even better would be if you could charge people for using your relay... We could have competing network companies, and they could blow up their competitor's relays and defend their own... :D
lol...Vendetta's first telecom grid.
Then some person will design one with engines and 4 rocket pods, it will shoot down other probes, yah!
We'll call it Microsoft!
Or make them self replicating...they spread of there own volition...you kill one it's just replaced. Something from DS9.
Bah, the mines to protect the station from the romulans right? pardon my spelling =P, one mine is destroyed, the closest one makes another!
Yes we shall, we shall call it MICRO$OFT!

Self-replicating minefields. I forget who thought it up... For some reason, I'm thinking it was Morn, but I'm almost definitely wrong... I'll check the encyclopedia when I get home...
Yes please.
It was Rom (sp?) who thought it up, and it was to prevent the Dominion from coming through the wormhole. I'm sure someone was dying for a correction of Pyro's 6 year old statement.
