Semi-Cap Ships
You mean like the Kaiten (http://www.combinedfleet.com/kaiten.htm)? :P I want genin's too...
Here is an idea for Semi-Cap ships, thus meaning ships bigger than fighters and bombers but still smaller than large Frigates or Carriers.
In this class of ship could be Large Freighters, Medium Freighters, Corvettes, and Small Freighters. Remember the Argosied from the original Escape Velocity? Those kind of large freighters with a few turrets and HUGE cargo holds would be so fun to have in this game. It would give more opening for escorts, and more opening for pirates.

I don't really like the idea of 'freighters' per se. I'd kinda rather that any ship could be turned into a 'freighter' by stripping out the weapons and using smaller less powerful engines and batteries. But since those are all features that don't exist yet (and may never) here are some 'freighter' ideas.
