Personel Transport

This is kind of related to the cross-universe wormhole thing.

So, we now have dockable NPC's that run on routes (the tridents). Why not add in a non-pilotable, but dockable ship that is unarmed and has UBER speed. Or, for now, just use an unarmed version of the trident with a big speed increase.

Players could take a "Transit" mission, much like the escort mission, to their desired sector. The personel transport would spawn in an empty sector and give players time to board. Then it takes off with it's uber speed (Infini-boost at like 500+m/s)to whatever destination the player chose as his mission.

There would be obviously no reward for completing the mission, just the reward of getting to your destination really fast. You would also not be able to take "Transit" missions into KOS space.

This wouldn't cause any balance issues either because the ship is non-pilotable and unarmed.

(I think there was a similar thread to this a while back about making a pilotable ship with high speed and no cargo or weapons capacity, but I think this might fit better in the scheme of things.)

I don't know about having it cost that much money though. 75k is not noob friendly. If anything I think it should cost maybe 1k per trip. I don't think we need it to be a money sink, just a faster method of transportation.

We need both, but even 1k is fine by me B)

Perhaps we could work out a series of flight paths that interlink the stations?

For example maybe the TGFT would offer a universal transport system, kind of like the bus'es of the Vendetta era. Also the TGFT would not fly people into grey/ pirate space, unless absolutely necessary to get to the destination desired.

Instead of adding an auto-pilot like many have wanted, perhaps some sort of Vendetta-mass transit system would be more Preferable to an Auto-pilot system.
It would also be nice if you could use this system without owning a ship, that way you could get to the place that sells your desired ship and then fly back on your own.

An intergalactic bus system! Yay! As long as I don't have to sit next to genka on the bus, I'm fine with this.

I know this thing will have "uberspeed" and hefty armor but what happens when it clips a roid at 500 m/s in a storm or something? Point being, if the Devs can build it 99% of the time we can break it at some point. So what happens to the passengers when the thing blows up?

So you board the GreyHound, log for a few hours and when you come back you're half way across the universe? Interesting. I guess. I bet this would help sell more vacation homes in Edras and Ukari.

Why would they hit storms, personally I think these ships should be a little smarter then the transport ships and actually plot corses though non-roided sectors, if we can I don't see why the AI can't.

You can get FROM anywhere TO anywhere in V-O in 20 min or less.

Although, this WOULD be nice for those times when you log out and have to be somewhere else tomorrow, so you set up transport for offline mode.

20 min in a perfectly planned route with nothing else going on, eyes glued to the screen with your finger on the "return" key waiting for the 25% energy to peek.

Plus not everyone enjoys traversing the void!

What if your trying to import IBG's from Itani space and you don't want to keep purchasing an alt ship to fly back to itani space when you finish your import. Instead of using the /explode exploit, you pay a small fee to ride the transport back to your purchase point.

It's just another small feature to add to VO to make it that much more, add a little variaty to the game, and possibly a realllllllly hard pirate target (givin it has really high speeds, or armor).

More like a ferry than a Greyhound. Allow *unarmed* ships do dock-and-ride.

I completely disagree with the notion of allowing travel while logged off though. If you "have to be somewhere else tomorrow", take 10 minutes in the beginning of your block of online time and ride the ferry.
