It looks....white....like it's still in beta test, you just upped the main client, some graphics for the update client wouldn't go amiss.
Give us a screenie, zamzx. It looks fine under OS X...
Dude, it looks fine, but just that, fine.
It's plain white, with nothing relating to vendetta whatsoever on it...it's really the first thing noobs see, and 'tis not very impresseve to look at as you download the update.

A gtk2 version for Linux would be super cool, since it's one of the only apps that I keep gtk1 around for...
The update client *was* updated recently, but it was a behind-the-scenes kind of updatethere isn't a visible change.
If I remember right, the devs plan on providing "optional" high-res texture packages sometime in the area of the future we like to call "Soon™". At that point in time, an update to the updater so that we can pick and choose from optional updates while still being forced to download the actual protocol updates would be necessary, but I don't see any reason to update it until that point.

Erm, I guess I wasn't clear...
I meant how it looks, it looks plain and white, not like a cool game opening thingy.

just how sexy is WOW's updater?
Too sexy for brains.
OpenGL-based niceness with render-to-texture update information on little "monitors" inside a 3D "cockpit". Yeah.
Failing that, just switch the colors around a bit and make it more vendettian. Dosn't really need to be skinned all the way, just a little difference in color to set it apart from Notepad :P

Exactly, just a bit will do it.
Yah, WoW's updater is pretty impressive.

{approve} Sexy updater now! ^^
Umm. Ok, this isn't going to be a huge priority, since the updater is really just about making the game functional. But what exactly do you mean? You want the updater to look like a themed version of Winamp or something? Lots of shiny and gradients and stuff? Whatever it does will have to be 2D.. the updater is not an openGL or directX app, and that will stay, since it's most important that the thing be able to function all the time and report bugs and stuff.
/me whispers "gtk2" over and over again
We looked at updating to gtk2 in the last update, but it was somewhat involved.. so we haven't yet. But anyway, that's platform specific, I'm asking more generally what it is that people want to make snazzy about the updater.
You mean you want it to look something more like this? (Note: I only used The Gimp to edit the screenie I took of the updater, nothing drastic)
Wiggoggs: Dear lord above. Ouch.
Incarnate: I'm for leaving it as it is, it really doesn't need anything done to it. (It's an updater! D: )
... But, yes, GTK2 would be nice at some point in the future. Veeeery low priority. To be done Later(tm), right after Soon(tm).

Yes, but before marketing, with the rest of the client looking all snazzy, the updater should look snazzy too.
...with pretty bits.

it's a bit of tinsel!
