Call it what you want. i was thinking more along the lines of the "Stinger." It's a tiny tiny tiny little ship with just the room for an engine, a bat, and 1 s. port. IT's incredably manuverable, but has 100 armor. Why would it be worth flying? Take a golf ball, a soccer ball, a baseball, and a marble. Have someone throw them into the air while you try to shoot them with a shotgun. See which one gets hit less, and let the marble represent the Stinger. Before it's hit, it can dish out a fair ammount of damage if the pilot's good.
So you want a ship to run for it with?

I say it should have 500 armor, besides in order for it to get killed, it needs to be within 145m of an avolon, if it isn't boom.

with 500, it can still take a few hits. I'm saying it should be able to fly circles around a valk, but still.. 1 hit, it folds up like a piece of paper near a match.
I had a similar thought, but I figured it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But since this thread was brought up... I was thinking more along the lines of a tiny recon ship. It would basically be a really small and very weak, but fast and highly agile, ship with no cargo space and just one small port. A type of super bus, in other words, that would mainly be used for recon and flag captures. Muwhahahaa...
I think this "Stinger" should have 250 armor 2 (s) weapons ports and super high manueverability, that way u die quick, but with a double tach or something u could dish it out to a promy as they couldn't follow u, u would just be too damn fast.

The point of such a fighter isn't to be able to "dish it out" to a promy... this request is for the proverbial "Tie Fighter"... a ship that is useless on its own for direct combat. It would, however, make an excellent scout.
This type of ship would be very dangerous in packs... once we have more cooperative players and more RPG elements added, they would have a decent place in "long term" strategies.
Also, while it may not be super fun to fly as a fighter, it would be VERY fun to fly as a recon vessel: you could dart in and around the enemy, laughing as they try to hit you, geta feel for who is there and how well they pilot, and then dart away and tell everyone about it.

The idea isn't for it to be some uber fast fighting ship, but to be a scout or a ship that in packs could kill. killing 1's nto a challange. Killing 5 or 6 would be.

yeah, just gotta be careful, if they're too close togeather, then of 1 blows up, the rest get hurt.. hehehehehehe.. i loved watching Tie Fighters do that in X-Wing

yeah.. Of course, i was thinking aobut asking for an extra advantage for this ship. Being that it's soooo tiny, a weapon's prox would register it as a roid unless the ship was within 10m of it. but now that i think aobut it, this think would be hard enough to drop without requiring extra...
Modification to the tiny ship idea:
* very small
* very low hull points
* very very fast (maybe 1.5x regular engine output?)
* medium agility
* 1 small weapon slot
* cloak device
Balance the cloak with less agility. It would be so fast that it wouldn't need to turbo much, but the cloak would drain energy like the turbo would.

Ummm, Slappyknappy, u said u could dart around the enemy while they "try" to hit u right? Well if you had weapons you could be firing and kicking their ass as well. And yes I love the idea of a big pack of these ships coming to kill someone. Imagine like 50 of these things? And if they were coming for you, I bet you'd be scared :D.

The game should be as balanced as it can possibly be, to avoid überships and ships that can not stand a chance against a bus.

a bus shouldn't have a chance of killing a normal ship,
a bus is free, normal ship isn't
But you should incur a penalty for attacking someone in a bus, naturally only for noobs, so 5000 and less XP, otherwise it would be exploitable

that's not the point. If it could do that, it would not be a spy ship, it would be a fighter. Two different ships, IMHO.
And no, not all ships should be equal, but all ships should be balanced: that means if one has an advantage (1.5x engine speed or very-very-high maneuverability) it should have equal disadvantages (very limited weapons, low hull, no cargo).
Actually, a spy ship would probably have a "1" cargo... a spy ship might need to bring back evidence, people, etc... But the focus would always be on stealth, speed, and avoidance rather than dog-fighting.

Yeah. It's not designed to fight alone. Sure, with 1 small port it can maybe put a beat down on someone who's not careful, but it woul be very, very risky because 1-2 hits and your ship goes BOOM.
Your advantage is that you can run like a bat outta hell and escape, but if there is a pack of stingers, they can take otu larger ships.

I like both the idea of the fighter AND the idea of the spy ship...
