Marketing to BSG?
Ok, so this is a little out of left field here, but what the hell eh?
Battlestar Galactica has become rather a popular series, and the fighting in it tends to have a similar feeling to that in Vendetta.
So, perhaps the devs could procure more funding by presenting the engine to the Battlestar Galactica Producers, I'm sure they'd be looking to develop a game at some point. Might make a pretty penny...

Yea, but then.........
eh why not?

but then you have to rename the Hog the Viper and give it 2 small ports instead of a L and a S.
Softy, well it'd have 2 s-ports and 1 bomb/missile launcher, I think. And the Mk VII would have something like 3 s-ports and probably 1 bomb/missile launcher.
That'd be nice.
Many folks (Shape included) have mentioned the fact that the combat scenes from BSG look very much like what you'd expect to see from the V-O combat engine. It would be a rather large coup if Guild Software could sell the producers of BSG on a merchandising game spinoff.
Of course, we'd never see Vendetta 2.0 at that point. But I'd be the last guy to begrudge the devs their payday.

why?
they could just sell the game engine (as their original intention for vendetta was) and let some other group of developers work on a BSG game. Just like how the HL2 engine is sold to other developers to build new games out of. Heck, a ton of games were made out of the Quake 3 engine.
