Planets

first of all i want to say hi to the amazing community of VO. i tryed the game about a week or so ago and i have to admit that it was pretty good. the community is a major aspect of the game.

ok, so my suggestion involves planets, now, im new t the forums and havent looked through ALL the forums but...have you guys considered having planets as an actual aproachable object in space? just a high texture sphere, nothing too detailed.

also, i really liked the station models and the way the station docking felt. i do wonder if there is any plan for more diversity. the bases seem a little repetative. what about planet landing? im not saying fully detailed manual landing, but if you have ever played freelancer, thats what i had in mind. kind of a cinematic transition.

also, what about more spacial anomolies? more flexability as far as ship equipment? again, i just went though a trial, so i havent seen everything.

Hi Iokua

The forums have been up and going for a few years and they are HUGE! You can't be expected to review the whole thing and know whether your topic has been discussed or not. We know how it is, and we've all worked together to create THIS:

See the entry next to "planets" for your specific question, but browse around too. Feel free to reanimate a thread if you have some innovation to add.

On the topic of planets.... Many people not only want to be able to approach planets, but also to land on them. I've come up with an efficient way of pulling this off-- forgive me if its been suggested before.

It occured to me a while back that it'd be impractical to have a huge planet all in the same sector (just imagine the lag). If you ask me, if we're going to get planets, it'd be most efficient to have them set up as follows:

**Have a single "planet sector" for smaller (Earth-size?) planets, and four or more for larger planets.

**Upon entering a planet sector, you'd have one or two stations, and several "landing vectors", each of which would essentailly be a wormhole in terms of functionality.

**The "landing vectors" would put you into another 16x16 grid, this time with each square representing a section of the planet's surface, with certain square designated as "spaceports", where you could land, strafe enemy buildings, etc.

**Certain other squares in the grid would be "exit vectors", letting you get off-planet.

Now, this obviously isn't going to happen anytime soon, but once the game really gets going.... =D
