Spacejunk off by default?
Just a minor aesthetic suggestion.
Imho the space junk looks a little tacky. It's like flying through a dirty fish tank. I know some players like to have it on to judge relative motion, but how about starting with it off by default? First impressions are huge.
Of course that could just be me. Opinions, anyone?

Give it some structure.
Right now its just polygons.
How about broken ship pieces that vary in combat zones.... like b8!
And then when somebody let off a lightning mine it would automatically zap from piece to piece creating a really big lightning storm.

*agrees with Phaserlight*
Spacejunk is ugly. It always will be, no matter how much you complexify it.

Make it darker so you can barely tell its there.
Then it won't be ugly.

Or just get rid of it. Then it'll be really hard to tell that it's there.
Agreed - it's the first thing I do every time I install a new beta client. Well, that and change target box mode back to 3D.
I'm thinking making it darker is a better solution... and perhaps giving players control of the space junk 'visibility level' to make it more or less visible if they like. The reason I think it should stay on by default is that relative motion is *REALLY* hard to judge as a newb if you don't have some indication like that.
and, personally, I fly with it on.

Yea, only noobs take it off.
:P

My feeling is that, in order for newbs to have a sense of relative motion, you can use points, or small dots, instead of the current triangles we currently have.. and also they should disappear when at a complete stand still.. for me, nothing detracts from the 'reality feel' of a game more than sitting next to a spinning triangle..
