This idea was mentioned before but it was turned down because if everyone has there own avatar, it would take up to much memory on the vendetta servers. Later on though I had the idea of having the avatar stored on the individual computer. The game could call the for the avatar off the computer every time it needs to use it. The dev's can monitor the avatars by having them go through an approval process and if it is approved, the dev's will give the picture out in a special code that only the vendetta program can read. This will take up ram and the dev's time though.
Well... (if u didn't read it above...)

It wouldn't take that much room.
The problem is creating the avatar creator.
Just not worth the time when there's soo much to be done.

The way it was suggested above, it would be necessary a lot of memory to store the character.
the player could have some faces, noses, eyes, tatoos, hair, etc... to choose from, and, by combining it create their avatar.
all that need to be stored would be, than, the codes of each of the parts and not any images or objects, something very alike the way the information about the stripe colors and what ship and equipament each player have and is sent to every other player and NPC (I believe)
Incarnate said to me it would take time to create an more advanced Avatar system and, having such a small team, I think itīs the main reason we do not have it yet.
I, personally would love to have it in game, not really sure about how much of a benefit it would be, but, surely, it would make the game more immersive

This is precisely what Eve Online has. I actually found it more interesting than the Eve Online game itself.
That doesn't say much for Eve Online.
Probably the designers of EVE Online have some use for their avatar system that they couldnīt find time to implement yet
If the ship is the users avatar, then perhaps An image of your current ship should be displayed?
